I posted on the site about a week ago enquirying about iBurst speeds etc. ( http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=30157 )

Well, I took the plunge and got a UTD through a reseller last week after 2 on-site signal tests.

LOS to the Midrand tower and I average -64db and a latency of 129ms to www.iburst.co.za (no external antenna using iConnect). Probably need to check MTU settings for latency but iBurst network has been doing upgrades and contending with the hoax/hack issue since thursday last week.

Great speeds (100kB/s downloads) but generally after 9pm. Average 40-60 kB the rest of the time. Speed at 1-2am is blinding!

Impressions as follows :
1. Could not have setup the UTD position properly without iConnect and utTraceStar (thanks Crash and Seburn) UTD sits on office window with clear LOS to tower. 10dB difference (-75dB) if obstructed by the wall. You guys should get a tick-box on the sign-up form to get a commission from iBurst.
2. Speeds are really impressive compared to 64k ISDN (backup for email as wife's company pays for it) and 64k Diginet in the office.
3. Resellers really don't know how to sell the product. I'm an electrical engineer so I researched the thing upfront. Reseller did not even know about MYADSL site or iConnect (I emailed him a copy). I asked about VPN to our Linux Fedora box in the office and he was clueless. If I sold such a high-end technology item, I would do my homework upfront! Pretty much the Incredible Corruption syndrome!!
3. Would like to see a higher cap (or non-existent) for the R599 -3Gig package. Used that up before Mon but probably because I knew I had to burn those Gigs before losing it. (Payment for the month is pro-rate but u get the full bandwidth
4. WBS site is terrible. Bandwidth monitor is really out of whack. DU Meter said I did 6 Gigs before the 31st Oct but WBS monitor said I had only used 2.6Gb.
5. Nukecap's OpenVPN does help on those torrents. Averaged about 15kB/s on upload but TCP and torrent settings were not optimised. Definitely thinking about going for the Pay VPN package
6. Dreading the 1st bill (when it arrives) as WBS seems to have problem there. Can't they learn anything from TELKOM?
7. I could not have made an informed choice (and so seamlessly) without the advice from the posts on this forum. Thanks guys!

Let's hope we get 2mbps and extra caps for Xmas!!

Well it seems like youve got a pretty good connection... like most on here have anyway. Their bandwidth monitor refreshes really slow... mine still hasn't registered any usage for this month, after almost 3 days! They also often pretty far out, even when you let them catch up with updating the usage. Youre latency and -64db sounds good, will make for real nice browsing + dl's.. enjoy! oh and not all the resellers are rubbish, just the fly-by-night ones that wanna make some cash by selling Iburst. I got a pretty clued-up guy from a good resseller so its really no anything to do with the service.

I also had the usage "problem" when i signed up... only had like a few days to burn 3gigs, it was bliss.. showed me what the internet should be like. Sucks having to then go a whole month with just 3gigs after using that in a few days hey.
