Hi

I have an iBurst UT and a Linksys WRT54G. The Linksys works well. However a few times a day the PPPoE conenction becomes diconnected.

I am running 4.0.7 of the firmware.

I have tried everything, but the only solution is to unplug the Linksys and then it reconnects. Even clicking the CONNECT button under status just gives 5 attempts to reconnect and thena message that it cannot get an IP address.

has anyone else has this problem?

from what i hear that is a very good router, and works just great with iburst. I think it is a iburst issue. What are you connecting? any idea which tower?

I am connecting a small group of computers - about 10. 6GB cap. I think it is the Rosebank tower. I didn't think it was iBurst because I can leave the iBurst UT on, disconnect the Linksys, reconnect and it connects the PPPoE automatically.

Under "Setup" "Basic Setup" try setting as follows:

Connect on Demand: Max Idle Time 5Min.

tick "Keep Alive" and set as below:

Keep Alive: Redial Period 20Sec.

That should sort out the auto dialing problem.

NOTE: Connect on Demand is ticked "OFF"
I should have left that line out as it just confuses things.

I wondered about redial period (hold-off time in IPCop), I found that 15 sec is a bit too short. Maybe a good idea to use persistent iso dial on demand.

I have mine set as per my last reply and have never had any disconnects that I noticed.

Thanks for all the advise. However my basic problem is that the CONNECT button still does not connect. I have to unplug the Linksys and replug it. I have also swapped out the unit with the suppliers today.

I have just tried the reset and that seems to work. But nothing gets around the software side of things.

I use a 3COM office connect at home and it works like a dream - I never have to do anything...

I assume you set all the other settings correctly, and even though I am no expert regarding the router I do not have the problem that you discribe.
Maybe someone else here who is an expert can add his 2 cents worth.

I also assume you "saved" the settings after you made changes.

Yes - all saved. I went through the settings with the Linksys technical guy - Cyril. Basically set up PPPoE username xxx@wbs.co.za and password. Set the redial to 20sec(ver 4 is set to 30s). Set up my wireless for WEP and change the password for the unit.

I have my wireless set to "WPA Pre-Shared Key"

You might have more settings then I have as I still have 3.03.1 firmware.

I'm sure one of the myadsl experts will be able to assist more once they see your post.

Maybe a daft question, but have you also tried another ethernet cable between router & UTD? [maybe the cable is faulty...]

PS: Welcome to MyADSL :).

Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried to connect to the net with the iBurst modem connected directly to a PC?

If so yet another dumb question, I assume you have the modem connected to the correct socket at the back of the router.

Could be firmware related, although im also quick to blame iburst these days. PM daffy, if anyone can advise you on a WRT its him. Also try another firmware version. Mayby even OpenWRT

One thing I have often read in the ADSL forums, is make sure you have the latest firmware - it's basically an FAQ...and I've also read the posts saying that problems mostly go away after updating the firmware...

Hi

I have the Netgear WGT624 and i was having the same problems. How close is your modem to your router? Try moving the router as far away as possible from your modem. Seemed to work for me.

I am having the same problem

Hi

I have setup two iBurst/WRT54G networks. One has 2 laptops (wireless) and a wired pc - works brilliantly - no problems.

The other has 2 wired pcs 1 wireless laptop (linksys usb network point) and a 3 wireless pc (also linksys usb network point).

The 2nd installation, the pppoe connection drops all the time. I switch off the modem and the router and it comes back fine.

The things I am going to try are:
1. Upgrade the firmware
2. Put the HyperWRT firmware on the router. This will enable me to push the power up - I suspect there may be a problem with the wireless pcs being too far away (through lots of walls) to the router
3. Move the router as far away from the iBurst modem as possible

More than that, I am not sure what to do - maybe ask the iBurst dealer to swop out the modem for me.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. I go to this site next week.
