Iburst costs the same if you use MWEB Iburst. You get the 2GB MWeb mailbox et al then. Why not just switch providers?
I currently use Tradepage as my “iBurst ISP” as they are efficient (Not a fan of MWEB / Telkom - expensive & poor service). Using iBurst as your ISP is madness as they can’t seem to get their billing system in order, their support service is non-existent (besides the ability of issuing you with a worthless reference number) and their administration staff seems to be on a permanent holiday.
As for using an iBurst email address, I’ve given up on this more than a year ago as they have continual email related issues. I use my own email address; however I am forced to use their SMTP servers, (due to their incompetence) which seem to be very unreliable / unstable.
They should have invested more, far earlier on their SMTP servers, not to mention their DNS servers which are still in need of urgent attention.
Further to this they should start supplying more bandwidth as 250 Kbps will never be 1 Mbps even if you advertise it as such and if they would only start to secure their network from outside attacks they will probably find that shaping (which causes huge customer dissatisfaction) wouldn’t be necessary.
(Sooner or later an iBurst customer will lodge a complaint with ICASA about their shaping policy – and if they are lucky ICASA will actually force the implementation of their ruling and iBurst will have to review their draconian shaping policy)
However, it seems they are starting to improve their service; it is just a pity that they waited until their own customers started an anti-iBurst (
http://www.hellburst.co.za/) website before they started to listen.
