iBurst Slooow Since Weekend

Since Saturday afternoon, I've been getting horrid throughput (Cape Town CBD tower). I initially thought I had been throttled, but I've only used 2 of my 6GB, according to the bandwidth monitor (reconnected several times to be sure). Telkom aDSL speed test reveals speeds of 50-60Kbps - generally I get 600+. International speed test results are equally poor.

I mailed the helpdesk and got a response that they were experiencing proxy issues, although I suspect the problem must lie elsewhere. During the day today, performance had improved, but it has taken a nosedive again this evening. I've seen a few updates to older posts and one regarding the proxy, but not the kind of outburst that would indicate a system-wide fault. Am I the only one in this boat, or are others also having hassles?

nope, I have had the same experience. Web browsing is fine. My issue is in the gaming. Was horrid the whole weekend, then picked up this morning, and then took a massive nose dive this evening again. Tried a VPN to bypass internatonal and that didn't even work

Phoned helldesk yesterday, still waitng for callback!!!

Currently getting an awesome rating of 55.2Kb/s from Telkom aDSL speed test. Downloads averaging 6KB/s. No visible improvement yet :-(. I've re-visited the issue with the helpdesk and will hopefully get something constructive in response.

Sucks a bit. This is the first extended issue I've had with my iBurst connection. Although we sometimes get the same thing with our 512Kb/s leased-line connection at the office (R20k per month). Sometimes I'm tempted to lay my own trans-Atlantic cable, terminating in an appartment in the UK with 24Mb/s aDSL. The cost of the cable will soon be recovered with the savings on bandwidth. *sigh*

i must be honest RatX... this happens once a month with iburst and mainly during the last few days of the month. i dont think its a cap rush or something like that. I think it has to do with iburst's capping/throttling system. It seems to get confused between people who are throttled and those who are not.

i sometimes find disconnecting for about a minute and even powering off your modem for a minute at the same time and connecting again can resolve this.

but sometimes it is just a crappy day at iburst, where all you can do is get hold with helpdek and moan.

Not only is it dog slow, but yesterday I couldn't get to any of the web mail sites (Mighty, Mailbox & etc). Tracert hangs at an IP (196.30.28.106) that whois's to UUNET jhb. Tonite, the tracert follows an entierly differnt path and I can get mail!! Anyone else had issue with that stuff, or is it just dumb me that uses a third party mail box.

Thanks Halicon, physically disconnecting the UT-D for a while improved the situation. Still not back to normal speeds, but certainly better than the crawl I was getting before. Suprising, because we had a power failure on Saturday night and that didn't fix it. Must be a combination of factors.

yeah iburst is a funny animal, but i must admit, even when iburst is having a bad day it is still faster then mywireless 128 on a good day.

also if you looking for good latencies you can run ping www.iburst.co.za -t in the cmd prompt and it improves things like online games and skype chats.

but as i sadi before simetimes iburst just has sh1tty days :(

Slow connection

My connection tonight is very bad... Anybody else having the same problem tonight?

It gives me that warm feeling for ibust all over again...

[ping www.iburst.co.za -t in the cmd prompt and it improves things like online games and skype chats.]

Why would this improve online games, etc? (Don't u just luv it when the request times out...)
