Attention Shaun Green

As we are not getting a respond from u as for why certain ports are unavailable/keeps disconnecting (not revering to p2p but IRC and MSN), I'm making the assumption that its faulty shaping services.

If I upgrade to Iburst 9gig(supporting p2p) will this resolve the IRC and MIRC problems as well? IOW, is the 9gig an unshaped service, or does it just let P2P connections through. If so what else are u throttling and why?

Plz correct my if I totaly got the cat by the tail

Thank You

why waste MORE money on something that MIGHT work. You sound like Sentech 128k users, when the speed sucked, they upgraded to 256/512 because they figured it would be faster, some even reported 256 being SLOWER.

So again, we have this forumite who thinks he'll solve his problems by upgrading his account. Dude, seriously, why would you think they won't have the exact same problems on the 9 gig account? Huh?

Dude, thats why i'm ASKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!And not GETTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and its not the SPEEDS!!!!!!!!!It's the BLOCKED PORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There should be no port blocking, only a 64kbps restriction on out-of-package protocols.

So if its not working now, it probably isn't working on the 9Gig package either.

BicPen I have the exact same question! And from some posts yesterday it looks like it is just a technical/configuration problem that is suppose to be fixed by Saturday.

They don't say anything about blocking ports/droping connections on their web site, so I did subsribe for the cheap contract as I am happy with 64 Kbits "for everything but http and email" statement, as long as it works 100%.

So can Shaun or somebody else let us know what is going on, are we getting all ports/protocols working fine or not? If not, why not?

AARGH!! Don't move the goal posts again! We were told Friday, and Friday it stays!! ;)

64k is not the case. There is no connection to P2P, it seems blocked to me.
Shaun, is this how its intended to be or an error?

Also, BicPen, I don't know your budget, but I think it is not nice to make statements that suggest that if they don't have port shapping etc on the expensive contracts, then you will consider them. You did not say that exactly, but it can be interpreted as saying that.

I don't think one should let them think that they can make more money by offering crap service and deviating from the official product description, and that is exactly what they will start to think if everybody who can't connect to MSN or IRC ask them if the problem would be solved if they move to the most expensive packages.

I think paying R600 for 3GB is bloody expensive by all standards, paying more than that is just completely ridiculous. Is is just the lack of competition and crap regulations in SA that keeps this prices so high! So don't put more woods in the fire and let them think they can screw us even more!

Raithlin, sorry but I saw Saturday somehwere on this forum ... so I am not sure, if you have more precise information let us know

BicPen, yes I know, I have very precisely the exact same problem. Http works 100%, no p2p at all and icq drops connection very often ... so they don't say that they going to block p2p or any other protocol. Here is what it says on wbs web site:

The applications optimised will receive the full access speed & will each receive a relative priority over other traffic.
All other applications will be restricted to a maximum of 64 kbps burst rate.

So this is what I expect, all p2p, ICQ etc to run max on 64 kbps, that does not mean to be unable to connect nor does it mean that the connection should drop every 5 seconds.

Iburst is the cheapest internet solution I have come across, I used to pay R1400 on telephone bills using ISDN not including line rentals. ADSL is R330 for 192k connection + R400 for 3gig(shaped) = R700
R900 for 4gig(unshaped) =R1300(which is more expensive, half the bandwidth, 1/8 the speed.
Iburst 9gig = R1100 (month to month)
My 3gig bandwidth lasts me less than a week.
I'm very strongly considering the 9gig package(as im on month to month and can cancel if crappy) for more bandwidth and p2p,but it won't be worth it if it doesn't solve the MIRC & MSN problems as well.

BicPen, yes, for SA it is sort of the cheapest solution, but in the rest of the world you get 2 Mbit for something like R250 equivalent, without shapping and limits, or the limits start from about 20GB minimum, othen are 50 or 100GB per month. So from my point of view it is extreemly expensive!

So I know we are in SA and there is nothing to about it, but if no one says anything about the overpricing of the telecommunications here, they will never get cheaper!

So, all I am trying to say to you is, don't let them think that you quietly will move to whatever package/cost they offer you just to get your p2p i ICQ working. Let the world know that you are not happy about that, and you are not going to pay more for something that is supposed to be working as it is. If you need fast speeds for more gigs that is another story, go for it, but don't move to expensive packages just for the sake of getting all protocols working, even if this is a solutions to that problem! They must fix it on your current package!!!!! Don't pay more to get what you paid already for!

Are you on sp2? check your firewall it could block the port maybe change your setting will help

cobrageo, sp2 means what?

If you mean service pack 2, then you should clarify which OS you are talking about.

I personaly work on Linux Mandrake and Windows 2000 (with SP3 as far as I can remember), but that makes not difference at all, believe me! On both OS I have exactly the same problem - http lightening fast and p2p not working at all ...

er.... dude, didn't i say that if its not working on the current package, the chances are it wont work on the 9 gig would be nill?

if people would just get past the insults I throw inbetween my posts they'll actually notice me answering their question too.

If you are really considering the 9 gig package, then i'd suggest getting ADSL with uunet uncapped, I hear they're back up and running now, harth can vouch for that (right?)

It would cost you more or less the same, without the throttling of ports like WBS and you're uncapped. Given, you're giving up the fantastic sales pitch "MOBILITY" but who cares if something is mobile and not working?

It's like trying to sell a car without an engine, yes, it will move when you push it, but you can get from point A to point B with less effort than that piece of junk!

Noone : do u have the URL for that ADSL package?I would love to check it out!!!
