iBurst update, quite happy

A couple of months ago, I moved to Melville, about 400m away, and in direct line of sight of WBS head office (and presumably their base station there) and have had a very positive experience ever since, to the point that I haven't even checked these forums coz I've had no issues whatsoever. Even online gaming's been a pleasure.

Just thought I'd say something postive about iBurst... anyone else been happy lately?

One thing is very clear when you read the posts in this forum, some have excellent iBurst experiences, others up & down, and others have nearly always down experiences, so it is not surprising that some customers will actually have a good word to say about WBS' iBurst...hell there are even a few posts from some delusional or extremely lucky customers that even claim to have received excellent customer service from the helpdesk itself......the point is that iBurst does not work for everyone - even after doing the G-spot thing with your iBurst modem, you are still going to experience base-station contention when too many customers use the same base-station(s) as yourself...

I'm generally quite happy, but experiencing some slow-downs in the evenings, particularly 8pm-10pm. Obvious contention issues creeping in.

Off-peak access is still very fast. Looks like I'm going to end another month under 3gb (I'm currently on 2.7GB)... so I haven't experienced the throttled service yet.

I still think WBS is one screwed-up company, with no clue how to deal with the public. The suspensions and now the email debacle are just the crowning examples of their complete incompetence on the PR front. They truly do not deserve the Iburst technology. I hope someone buys it from them and turns Iburst into the fantastic service it should be.

ADSL and its greater variety of access options are looking more and more attractive. It's just the lack of speed which I don't like. The thought of downloading at 20-40KB/s when I'm used to 120KB/s is not appealing at all.

If I do change, I might just have to wait for the SNO, because the thought of having to deal with Telkom is way too repugnant.

im still happy, except for when my tower was down for 13 hours, that pissed me off and i wish they'd let me buy more than 9gb of extra bandwidth, and the smtp thing is a bit worrying, but besides that its a good product, i get my speed, thats all I want

I must say, from what I can see it seems IBurst is an amazing piece of technology, but their management policies suck. Only 9GB of bandwidth at that humongous price? That is seriously sucky and on top of that only p2p on 9GB accounts and apparently their 64K means you’re disconnected. And of course there’s their email balls-up. No thanks, I think dialup is cheaper and can download more :)

As another person living in Melville, in direct line of sight etc etc - I have to point out the exact opposite experience with IBurst (I've since happily left them).
So relying on someones experience who happens to be in the same suburb as you - is no indication that IBurst will be good for you, or work, or even make their helpdesk answer the telephone in under 20 minutes.

I posted before saying I was happy with my iBurst experience so far , and I'm still happy (I realised I am about 400-500 m away from tower maybe that is why), but what they did to the e-mail users realy sucked !!!! ... but I use gmail at home so it did not affect me , but I would like to comment on a weird experience I had yesterday , I have been capped since Wednesday , on Wednesday the normal surfing was terrible but my ping time on the international game servers I play on remained the same , and then suddenly yesterday it IMPROVED from 300ms average to 200ms average , I was quite surprised I never had ping times under 300ms even when uncapped, dont know if they uncapped me yesterday afternoon already but ahh well . I dont mind being capped the last few days as long as I can still play online .

Oh ..just a comment on their help desk.... it sucks...called it yesterday to ask how do I upgrade my package to 9gb option , was on hold for like 10-15 min , and was then told to mail this lady and she will contact me , have not heard anything from them yet , I mean really , I want to give me more of my money every month but they dont seem to want it
