Iburst using ipcop mtu causing bytes missing & vpn ssh sessions to hang

Hiya,
I am using eth3 (red nic) as my internet connection.
The problem is that when I start a vpn connection, then ssh to machine, try and run any command in terminal, then the session hangs after few seconds?
doing a tcpdump -i eth3 I get the following message:

12:48:36.267610 PPPoE [ses 0x3] IP truncated-ip - 256 bytes missing! iburst.co.za.http > wbs-196-2-112-149.wbs.co.za.rtss: . 533347:533756(409) ack 206 win 65330

I see from the posted msg forums that it should be set at MTU 1452.
I have tried changing the MTU values higher and lower and still get "bytes missing"??? any ideas welcome ;-)

1352 ....is recommended by some of the tech staff .. that's the one I'm using and not having any any vpn hassles.
