ICASA’s WiMax decisions raise concern

I wanna shoot the bugger in the foot who started this BEE and 51% thing. This is only going to cause more problems and delays.

god i hate this place every time crap like that is thrown around. Mark my words WiMax will be useless in this country if it gets anywhere at all.

And as usual these decisions will only benifit the 51% of the owners of the company instead of the millions of disadvantaged that can now have access to decent services.

Racism is still thriving in our beautiful and once prosperous country.
The following issues will be taken into consideration during the pre-qualification beauty contest phase:

1. Minimum 51% black owned with an emphasis on woman in line with broad based BEE;
2. Levels of participation in management and control in line with the Employment Equity Act;
3. Affirmative procurement in line with the Preferred Procurement Policy Framework; and
4. Commitment to skills development of historically disadvantaged individuals in line with the Skills Development Act.

Since this seems to be the official thread, I will repeat what I said elsewhere:

At least after yesterday's landmark Constitutional court ruling, they can now also now be 100% Chinese![:)UNIQUELY SOUTH AFRICAN IDIOSYNCRASY!]

Can't they get anything right? If all the players say you need 30 mhz then maybe you do need 30 mhz. Sigh.

Go South Africa for once again failing to look to the future and stop the "reverse racism"
Eejits.

This is why South Africa will always be a third world country.
No one in power is concerned about trying to compete on an international level, they more concerned about how many black woman they can empower in an already dieing economy.

Why does it seem as though every decision ICASA makes is only made to protect Telkom's monopoly? I can only imaging that this whole allocation process is going to take at least another year. And after that time, companies will be allocated an amount of spectrum that makes it impossible for them to compete cost effectively so as to make Wi-Max an affordable alternative to Telkom's ADSL offerings.

All this gives Telkom enough time to get their ADSL2+ offering up and running, assuming Telkom can even be bothered to try.

Crap, I know WiMAX operators that are successful in as little as 14Mhz of spectrum.

Yes, it's more expensive, but then again, WiMAX isn't exactly the 70Mbps @ 40Km service it was promised.

It's doable within 20Mhz of spectrum. Entirely.
