''The authority(ICASA) indicated to Telkom and to all parties presents at the hearing, that it recieved 46 complaints with regard to the adsl service as provided by telkom. The nature and volume of these complaints necessitated the need to examine the nature, manner and the quality of the adsl service.''

If any one has a valid complaint about wbs's Iburst service and if enough people make the right noices to ICASA hopefully they will do an enquirery into WBS"S Iburst service.

I think it would certainly be in Wbs's interests to take some of the recommendations outline in the Adsl report to heart, they are after all regulated by the same body.

It is interesting to note that Icasa believes broadband players should provide an SLA, and Icasa's position on protocol prioritization.

WBS and Sentech just followed Telkom's lead with regards to restictions such as 3Gb cap and port prioritization.

They will be forced to follow suit because they are competing with Telkom's ADSL offering.
You are very naive, this is WBS we are talking about. As far as they are concerned anything to make a quick buck or cut costs goes.

WBS will be stupid to think that the findings in that report is aimed only at Telkom. Clearly the findings ICASA has made are very much directed at the broadband market in general.

Very positive for the consumer.

Yes indeed, WBS would be very stupid. The problem is WBS is a deaf-mute company and they do not respond to anything unless the media gets involved or some high-profile people contact them! They are in it for the money, to make a quick buck and do not worry if the service is less-than-published. They lack the technical skill to make this a commercial success and are capitalizing on people's dislike of Telkom. However should Telkom drastically reduce their ADSL pricing and increase caps we could see WBS go swiftly out of business. I may hate Telkom but I am not going to support WBS if they carry on giving me mushroom treatment and Telkom's pricing becomes much more favourable.

Yeah. They (and everyone else, even WISPs) do it because Telkom does it. It's a easy way to get away with less for them. Change Telkom, you change the industry because virtually everyone MUST follow suite, or, loose the customers as they all migrate back to telkom who then, will have a superiour service.

Give it time, see what happens.

I reckon that if the proposed ICASA changes go through half the country will be using ADSL in no time. I think that Sentech and iBurst are basically stuffed. They don't seem to have the skills or interest that they need to properly serve their customers. I was considering going with iBurst but I have decided to wait to see if some of the changes that ICASA say need to happen actually go through!

Thats a very valid point, WBS must change its outlook or get left behind.

Yesterday already :

What are the chances of that happening? Why they're not even a member of the ISPA!!!! They do as they please, they don't care.

I am positive. These findings will have to filter down to all broadband providers - including WBS. Other findings from the reports state that broadband providers must provide a guaranteed minimum connection speed and any thing under 152 is not considered "Broadband". WBS will have to jack-up the towers so that they can provide this guaranteed minimum.

So bottom line for me - WBS will have to improve everything they offer (Or don't offer for that matter) else they will go down!!!

I had a good read through the report and it was brilliant ICASA > Telkom. I think we need to print out this report and personally drop it of at WBS both iBurst level and management level.

I will ditto all the points made above, since I agree with them.

If yesterdays comments about WBS striking are true, then they chose a good day to show their total disregard of the report...
