ICASA chairperson must be removed immediately

The chair of the council of Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), Ruben Mohlaloga, must be removed from his position immediately. This is according to a resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications.

After considering the conviction and sentencing of Mohlaloga, the committee adopted a resolution that he be removed in terms of section 8 of the ICASA Act.

He was appointed as an ICASA councillor in 2013, despite being accused of defrauding the Land Bank of R6 million at the time. Mohlaloga was arrested and charged in October 2012, and was subsequently released on bail.
WTF.
He was appointed after being arrested and charged!
Should never have been given the job.

Perhaps he needs to pay back his salary - same as SAA pilot.

I'm so glad MyBB exists. They expose or broadcast at least important things.

How did this guy fly under the radar for so long. It's so sad it's funny.

Standard operating procedure for the cadres, there are many more examples of this happening on a daily basis. But yeah I'm playing the victim card again.

Well to be fair you are innocent until proven guilty. Only thing is this privilege doesn't extend to the general citizen.

In 2013, he knew what he had done and still fraudenly accepted the job.
So now that he's been found guilty, he must pay back the last 6 years salary and go to jail.

And the people who appointed him must held responsible for not doing due diligence and get fired for being accomplices in this 6 year fraud and theft of taxpayer money.

It is halfway through March. He was convicted in February. You would have thought this would have been a priority.

The dates are much earlier - convicted Jan 2018 (having been declared guilty of a criminal offence by the verdict of a jury or the decision of a judge)
  • 2008 - Mohlaloga (former deputy president of ANC youth league and ANC MP) defrauded the Land Bank of approximately R6 million
  • Oct 2012 - Mohlaloga was charged and arrested and released on bail.
  • Jul 2013 - Mohlaloga appointed as ICASA councillor despite fraud charges
  • Jun 2016 - Mohlaloga appointed ICASA acting chairperson despite fraud charges
  • Dec 2017 - Mohlaloga appointed ICASA chairperson despite fraud charges
  • Jan 2018 - Mohlaloga found guilty by court see SAPS web site.
  • Feb 2019 - Mohlaloga the fraudster sentence to 20 years, Mohlaloga can appeal the sentence, but not the guilty verdict.
  • Feb 2019 - ICASA refused to remove guilty fraudster Mohlaloga
  • Mar 2019 - Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications states guilty fraudster Mohlaloga must be removed
  • Today - Mohlaloga the convicted fraudster still not removed from ICASA, still not in jail, still not paided back the money.
