Hi folks

I am uncertain as to how many of you have had time to return your comments on the ICASA draft regulations yet. Do you think it will be advantageous if we ask for an extension on the deadline of 3 January 2005?

Regards,

Rudolph

Probably a good idea to get an extension, but on the other hand, the longer we leave it, the longer we have to wait for ICASA to wipe the sleep out of their eyes, have their double dose of caffeine and do something about this ridiculous situation Telkom has placed us in.

what we need is a template email to icasa explaining the flaws so that everyone here can see what is the problem and how they can word their emails.

You are going to find ppl in the forum that want to help but are either to lazy or dont have the time. if they were helped along with a small template to guide their thoughts on the matter. Maybe have a small debate on the actual finding and see how we can change it for the benefit for everyone.

I agree with snoopy. Im not sure that everyone should email their own comments, would be too polarised.

Would it not be a good idea to put our backing into a list of comments made as Myadsl? Or would this appear to only be from one person instead of thousands?

maybe something along the lines of a partition. and all the members sign it
makes for an easy exercise and its way more effective.

Maybe even a petition? :D

This will only work if we entrust the details of our submission to a few (RPM, Debbie2, Michael, etc) and we just put our weight behind it. That way we have a very specific set of demands/recommendations. Otherwise we will end up spending months debating the contents in a thread.

Of course everyone is then able to make their own submissions to Icasa as well.

I agree with stoke.

There is almost three weeks left to submit this
Lets get it done

Also if MYADSL can composed a list to send.
It may appear better if the same requests comes from a couple of hundred sources instead of one source with a couple of hundred signatures.

It will appear that people care enough about the issue to not just sign a petition but also send the request.
And if MYADSL scripts the email then it will make sure that this is a unified request.

Not just everyone giving one or two things that they think is important and leaving the rest out

There's plenty time, therefore I would not apply for an extension. It would also be seen as myadsl slowing down the process which they want speeded up themselves.

i would think that myadsl would not want to delay this process any more.

Telkom will use that as a tool.

We need to focus our effort on the report and come back with exactly what is required.
I will be talking tonight to all members of the channel and getting them actively involved in this.

We need action and not delay.

Our focus should be on this topic now!!

I think the 3rd is more than adequate for individuals as well as MyADSL to respond to a 3 page document.

Besides - telkom is obviously going to ask for an extension - its what they do - let them look like they need more time to concoct their answers.

I agree

We don't need to give Telkom any ammo. The 3rd is plenty time IMO. In fact, although many are in holiday mode, this is when alot of people find time to do this sort of thing - not always in working hours. The sooner the better.

If anything, lets advertise the deadline agressively on the front page of the forum, and then the odd news article with a link would help.

Agreed: I also believe that asking for an extension now may play right into telkom's hand. Lets rather, go with the template idea were some members with some superior grammar and writing skills and maybe even legal background, composes a template, the members can then voice their individual opinions in a structured and formatted way! Thus ensuring the maximum readability and provides a uniform way of commenting, we should make life as easy as possible for ICASA!

Can a doc be drawn up by the lawyers etc. amongst us that we can all submit?

I would love to, but I wouldn't even know how to start a doc nor submit it.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I will design a template tonight and send it to all members to complete...will also work on our formal submission.
