Yip - i find it quite strange that ICASA is so keen to license some broadcasting company that clearly goes against its moral stance - it is most probably majority white owned, and controlled by foreigners, two things we know are frowned upon, which is clear from the undersea cable debacles.

What if they just moved their hq to Namibia or Botswana? Nothing is going to block their satellite's signal from reaching SA.

If so, would ICASA be able to legally block the selling of their receivers in SA?

In case !CASA is stumped on the list of submarine cables, I have devised the following comprehensive list to save !CASA several months of strenuous work:
  1. SAT-2
  2. SAT-3
  3. SAFE
that should shave about 6 months off of !CASA's workload .

Thank you Mr ic. Please note that a meeting to discuss the submission of your submission will be held at a date to be announced shortly.

During the hearings in May, some applicants for pay television licences raised their concerns about the minister's comments on WorldSpace, as they felt that the firm was being given special treatment.

Waar daar 'n rokie trek is daar 'n vuurtjie. ICASA wouldn't allow a local company from providing a WorldSpace type of service without all kinds of requirments yet this company is actually given the "We will try and find a loophole for you" red carpet treatment. Nice!

Corruption is not even hidden anymore.

It is sad that our country is turning into this sticky, yucky, greaseball ridden place. Stuff like this is so hard to stop when it first gets a grip in policy maker's minds. When one dips into this mental corruption everybody wants in and it trickles down from the top down, not from the bottom up.

I'm surprised they didn't put a back-door clause in the ECA like they did for Sentech.
