"ICASA will mess up the industry for 20 years" — Telkom files lawsuit over 5G spectrum auction

Telkom has launched a legal challenge against ICASA's plans to auction valuable radio frequency spectrum that is to be used for 4G and 5G networks in South Africa.

In an interview with MyBroadband, the Group Executive: Regulatory Affairs and Government Relations for Telkom, Siyabonga Mahlangu, said that Telkom has tried to engage with ICASA regarding the spectrum auction on several occasions, but the regulator rebuffed them.

Mahlangu warned that if the spectrum licensing process were to continue as is, ICASA would mess up the industry for 20 years.

 If they had the right spectrum, this won't be an issue. Isn't this what the article is about....spectrum.
Anyway, probably depends on location, because I have an (month to month) contract with them and I'm happy with my reception.

This, like people complaining that operators should first fix 4G before moving to 5G and not understanding that moving to 5G is the only way to "fix" 4G.

Telkom has some good points. South Africa is a part of and gives input to the ITU yet these Isucka clowns have no idea what they are doing and have held the industry back for the last 20 years. The mind just boggles.

Telkom and Ivy messed up the industry for 20 years.

Telkom's Mahlangu said:
“If I can’t do Cape Town [with this spectrum], you’re really taking me out,” Mahlangu said, adding that it was the same problem across all major metropolitan areas.

“If you’re going to ask me a billion rand for the spectrum, locking in my [capital expenditure], then I at least need to be able to use it,” he said.
Who would've thunk that Telkom would be experiencing 3rd world problems in a country run into the ground by cANCer cadres?

Get real Telkom and go kiss Stella's arse or feet, or something else she might like, at the very least invite her to an extravagant no masks and no sanitiser party.

Lol ... Telkom has never been able to compete on anything, all they've ever done is complain and use the government to get monopolies. They're just another incompetent SOE in disguise

Telkom and Ivy messed up the industry for 20 years.
Ivy and ALL her successors did most of this all by themselves.
Telkom just behaved like any entity in possession of a resource.
"Possession is nine tenths of the law".

Yet Telkom have the best packages now that they are forced to compete. Shows what the right regulation can achieve.
