ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024

sure he can play one more.
but who will take his place, aat what point do you start getting the new group in?
Don't need to worry about that if you win the world cup. I don't think India are that worried about their recently retired champions.

I think we did the best we could in the final just that our weaknesses it the batting and in the bowling got exposed. I am proud of the boys fighting to the end. Now where is the test cricket...

they have a much stronger local crop to work from.

with the IPL they have strong contenders even for the legend's spot this year already and those players have been tested against International players.

the SA20 is growing, and it is showing the good players performing and giving us a chance, but is it enough?

there will always be players retiring. its just the way the game works.
the question is, are we doing enough to get the next crop match ready?
could more have been done to get this team ready for the pressure of a final?

You were talking about the next world cup. Im saying miller will play it and if we win, it doesn't matter what happens afterwards because we will finally have tasted success.

ok so how many players will have retired by the next world cup?
and is it time to get some game time in for the replacements?

QDK is done (31)
Reeza is 34
Markram is 29
Stubbs is 23
Miller is 35
Klaasen is 32
RVVD is 35
Kesh is 34
Jansen is 24
Shamsi is 34
Baartman is 31
Kg is 29
Phehlukwayo is 29
Nortje is 30
Rickleton is 27
Mulder is 26
Ngidi is 28
Cotzee is 28

that means it was likely the last world cup for Miller, Reeza and last chance for RvvD. I think Kesh will push on a few more years, he is taking after Imram Tahir and he played until he was 42.
Kg has already been playing for 10 years at this point, and a fast bowler does not have that long a shelf life. its just more strain on the body. but he has been managed very well to keep his fitness up.

I can see Markram leading the team to another final, and I can see Kg, Nortje, Stubbs, Jansen, Klaasen and potentially Baartman in that team.
but we are in need of an opening pair. we need a power hitter in the middle and we need more batting all rounders.
Mulder and Phehlukwayo need to really improve to be able to make an impact and make the team. so that leaves Geralt.

we need to start getting another spinner into rotation to learn from Kesh on how to sport our fast bowlers, that is a special skill that not many have done well.

so who are we thinking for opening pair?
is Klaasen going to be the permanent keeper?
who is strong enough to be the middle oder rock that we need.
Miller will retire at the home world cup in 2027. Rohit was 37 at this one. He will want to go out at home.

Rickelton will open and take the gloves in place of qdk.
The other opening spot is wide open if reeza goes.

The thing that is worrying me ( I guess its the 30 percenters in full force) is thinking that the tail enders have the same skill and ability to handle Bumrah and co. It is beyond absurd

SA had it in the bag

i call it choking

all they needed was to navigate 2 bumrah overs ...and they were home

but india bowled excellent

the catch was abit controversial ..looked out and still after lots of videos still looks out
Sometimes you have to give credit to the bowling side. This game being a case in point. If the roles were reversed all the naysayers here would be comment on how brilliantly SA bowled and not that India choked. Food for thought.

I's a T20 not a Test, the batsmen have to play risky shots to put pressure on the bowlers. Sometimes they come off, other times they don't. The format is a lottery.

People who are going on about the catch are also barking up the wrong tree. It should have been given Not Out and 6, but for a different reason to what most a claiming.

I agree with everything other than the quoted part.

that was a fair catch, his feet did not touch the ropes.
it was a fair delivery.
it was the moment we lost the game 100% but it was skill that gave them the game nothing else.
I have also not seen any comments about why it should have been out so do enlighten us to your view.
possibly with some photos or videos to illustrate it better.

The problem with the catch was that the player never returned to the field of play when completing the catch. He jumped from outside the field and caught the ball BEFORE his foot made contact with the ground. He was thus still outside the field of play.

Nope.

It's got nothing to do with where he last stood. If you're in the air then you're in the field.

So you can stand 3m beyond the boundary and catch the ball as long as you jump?

Elaborate.
Went through all of this with the infamous Mitch Starc catch. Though I'd regard him as being in the field regardless, you said "completing". He'd only complete the catch once he is both in full control of the ball and his body, hence when he is back on the ground.
