Idling server hardware

Guys i need some advice here, i have a idling HP G3 with 2x 75 SCSI, 3GB RAM that i want to make use of. My site setup is as follows:

1 DC running 2003
15 users running XP, Accounting software.

So i want to take advantage of VMware or Virtual server and create 2 virtual servers, one for wsus, one accounting package server and Exchange server.

Is this the right way to go

Does that server support hardware virtualisation thou?

Look at using vmware esxi.

suggest you create a backup DC, demote the current one, before migrating. Pnce migrated, promote vm and demote the backup. You could even use a vm for the backup vm.

Sorry guys, the DC and the idling server are two different machines.I plan to leave the DC for user authentication + printing,scanning to folder only and nothing else. The idling machine does support virtualization though.

Best thing is to P2V your current idling machine, then create a virtual host with the hardware (also look at Citrix XenServer, which is better than EsxI and also free). Then P2V the other machine, directly to the new Virtual host, and create a second host from that hardware. Lastly, copy all the images to both hosts. You will then have all your machines as VMs, with two virtual hosts for redundancy....
