If it was around R450 a month I'd toss my fiber out the window in a heartbeat.
It just feels kind of like a downgrade, moving from a wired terrestrial connection to a wireless satellite service, susceptible to weather and needing a little external dish..

Absolutely no need for it since I have fibre.

But, it certainly opens the door towards thinking about that small holding concept a lot more seriously, or going otherwise rural.

No need to wait for Starlink to consider rural areas, some already have decent Internet connections. I can even get 5G in my area.

Yeah I’m not choosing the area based on the internet.

So far the bigger failing point has always been lack of proper internet.

I know of at least two farms that will get it in a heartbeat as the other internet options are not fast and reliable enough.

And give Musk the option to turn off my internet, just because he's having a tiff with the government? Oh hells no.

Rural areas are underserved by connectivity. In most cases for rural communities and schools, getting connectivity costs millions. Current satellite is very expensive, not not to install but for the monthly costs too, with huge latency. Starlink can definitely help with this. Any LEO solution that gets approved will be such a great way to serve these underserved areas of the population

For fibre can depend on the area. In my NE Jo'burg suburb we see vandalism to the visible fibre cables surprisingly often. Maybe due to a poorer suburb nearby.

But we're happy enough with LTE as we don't really go for higher than 720p and aren't into gaming etc. - 20/20 Mbps more than enough for us

Starlink would make sense if I still traveled.

A great many will signup, myself included.

I've advised numerous individuals and businesses on Starlink, especially those struggling with unreliable GSM, WISP, or no internet connectivity for years.
Starlink will unlock vast business opportunities, expanding the economic pie for everyone.

It's unfortunate that some resist this transformative opportunity that boosts competitiveness.

I reserved my spot with a deposit years ago when pre-orders began.

Nope. I'm lucky enough to have 2 fibre providers at my house. If i was in a crappy area with no fibre and dodgy LTE, I'd definitely consider it though.
