If you buy a high end AMD Mobo, how long will it last you before you need to upgrade?

Assuming you want to play games at 1080p, med-high settings with an adequate GPU.

Cause I'm gettin tired of having to replace my mobo every 2 years with Intel (okay not really, since an i5 2500k is good for the next few years, but still, replacing both mobo and CPU sucks.)

Unfortunately you'll have the same issue with AMD.

Why don't you get a higher end mobo?

That's not gonna help for socket changes when you want change to new cpus.

I would go for run of the mill boards as they are gonna be obsolete any way so I don't see the point on buy top of the range stuff that go for triple the price.

CPU's and M/B's have reached the stage where you no longer need to upgrade them every two years -for games. Main focus is now on GPU power, I believe. ;)

If you're looking at AM3+, a year, because it will be completely deprecated in 2015. FM2+ we're looking at roughly two years before Excavator APUs get replaced, in which case that means you'll probably be looking at a platform upgrade in 2016. If you're looking at Intel, it'll be 1.5 years, as Broadwell will be replaced in late 2015 with Skylake, which will need a new socket but will also bring faster M.2 drives, SATA Express support and DDR4 compatibility.

If you just want something that's serviceable until Skylake launches, a decent 970-series board like MSI's 970A-G46 or ASRock's 970 Pro 3 with a FX-6300 will be perfectly fine for the settings you'll be playing at.

Will I need Skylake to run the latest games in 2 years time...or will a i5 4570 still be able to do it (on med-high)?

Correct, your system will still be able to play the latest games, especially if you overclock your CPU, and upgrade the GPU as needed.

For instance, I have a 2600k running @ 4.6gHz.

CPU is not going to bottle me soon anytime.

So it seems, still rocking my i7 2600K from Q1 2011.

Desperately need a major GPU upgrade tho...

AMD motherboards have historically had better longevity than Intel. The situation has only changed a bit since the last generations of CPUs and APUs but the motherboards are still backwards compatible with the previous generation of processors, not the other way around though. Still with the price of AMD boards you can safe enough to afford a better processor or graphics.

I am still rocking my i7 920 overclocked to 4ghz. I decided to rather get an ssd and a better graphics card than upgrade my mb and cpu

About 5 years lol. AMD paper launch things and then have rubbish performance.

Look at Steam's stats, some 70+ % of systems are Intel powered - and for a reason.
