Eskom kisses R5.6 billion goodbye

Eskom lost approximately 14,000GWh of electricity sales, equivalent to R5.6 billion, to illegal connections and the like during the 2022/23 financial year.

The power utility also told MyBroadband that 28% of all unplanned outages it responded to between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023 were caused by theft, vandalism, and illegal connections.

By knowing the amount they should know where they are - so disconnect them...................
Then there are the legal connections, but the recipients simply do not pay. Not much chance of sorting those out either with an election looming.

They do know, but they are often powerless to stop it because they lack support.

My dad's factory is in Benrose, JHB. Lots of hijacked buildings and businesses using illegal connections. Two months ago, City Power tried to go on a drive to disconnect them and arrived with a SAPS escort. The SAPS escort was driven off by the community and the City Power employees were then assaulted. They haven't been back since. Doesn't help that the influential hostel indunas are tied up in all of this and nobody wants to mess with the hostels, not even SAPS.

See this is why the police and SADF had to fsck these clowns up properly every now and then. To restore some law and order in the only language they understand.

Now look at us.

Write it off until next year.

Useless law enforcement where the criminals wield all the power and have all the rights.

It is an absolute joke, I reported an illegal connection in my street, the municipality came out and disconnected the house and took their gear out. The same day the homeowner re-connected his power with his own electrical cables and breakers. I reported this to the council and they once again came out and disconnected the house from the grid and took all of his gear with them. This occur another two time after this and I have now just given this up as a lost cause. What is upsetting about this if it was me I would of more than likely be sitting behind bars and have the book thrown at me. Bribery and corruption rule in this country, our government looks after the criminals and punishes the honest hard working people of the country.

Apparently none of it is caused by incompetence:laugh:

This is not just due the the incompetent, money hungry, vultures who "manage" Eskom. Let's remember, that the state we find ourselves in is the results of a failed government, that fails, at the most basic level, to ensure the safety of the country's infrastructure, and more importantly, the people who live under it. So lest we not forget the incompetent, money hungry, vultures who are running out country, who created a culture of corruption and greed, so deep that it will take decades before we are free of it, or before enough of us realise that all we did was exchange one evil regime for another. It's taking a bit longer than we would like, but more and more people are starting to see that the ANC stopped being for "us" a long time ago, and that now the ANC is only for the ANC.

We are at a point where our public sector is nothing more than a parasite, feeding off the success of our private sector, with the sole intention of getting as much of their money sd possible,
