Hi. I'm on the lookout for a second hand flash. One of those big external ones but I don't want to pay thousands of rand's. I know you get what you pay for :(

I found a flash in my fiancés old camera bag which is a Sunpak 2000dz - Sunpak 2000dz

And this flash works perfectly on my Nikon D3100. I would like to find another second hand one like this and they should be quite cheap. Any other flash that is similar and that is under +/- R800 would be great!

Thank you!

Just be careful, 3rd party flashes not designed specifically for your manufacture's range can kill your camera. Also, older flashes usually have a trigger voltage which is way too high for digital cameras.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

How can I find out what the trigger voltage is and if it could harm my camera? There is a setting on the flash for Nikon but it could be for older film cameras.

Thanks

Hi there, Ok I just found this website http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

If you search the page for auto 2000 dz it states that the voltage is 3V.

On this website http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/003lWj they say that the sunpak 2000dz will work on a Nikon D60 SLR as anything under 10V will be fine.

Can anyone maybe confirm that these statements are correct?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, think so. At least, that's what 2 minutes of cursory googling seems to suggest.
