I really wish someone could explain this to me. Look how clean the trace route looks on VPN compared to without VPN on rain.

Although the latency on the VPN is much higher the quality of the internet service and streaming feels much faster with the VPN on.

240kbps speeds is unacceptable. You promised up to 10 Mbps and never said we should expect no or very slow internet this is misleading to consumers.

The VPN stack probably re-transmits lost packets and masks the packet loss to some extent. With 700ms to 8.8.8.8 this is basically unusable regardless. I am assuming off-peak is better?

Basically ISDN speeds. Labelled broadband. And that's why it's false advertising to say they deliver up to 10 Mbps. I would really love rain to update their advertising to include from 164 kbps up to 10 Mbps then it won't be false.

They really need to add additional access points in adjacent neighborhoods. They are basically trying to deliver internet service to half a town with one tower.

Just cancel , had the same issues with rain had no choice but to cancel , support is no help

Rather just get MTN’s Fixed Uncapped LTE 10Mbps

Might has well but its not my rain account so kind of stuck with this poop. Also rain support has stop responding to my support message on the inbox here on the forum.

This is the average speed of rain in my area. Also doesn't matter how many devices you connect they all get the same speed. Weird right, you'd think the fewer devices the more speed you would gain.

So at least 20 times I had to contact them about these slow speeds and connection issues. They always just looking into it. and asking if its better then I have to tell them no, they look into it again. Never any change. We don't even use 100gb a month so its can't be because of FUP.

Rain is so depressing.

There are very good options now for LTE under / at 100 GB anytime, nevermind the added night data.

Don't know the circumstances but try reason with whoever controls the account that you'll likely have a much better experience with either Telkom or MTN, and probably Cell C as well (and test them out beforehand).

Telkom through Axxess :
90 + 90 GB = R 399 pm ;

MTN through Afrihost :
90 + 90 GB = R 349 pm
(Axxess still to revise their prices on MTN) ;

Cell C Home Connecta Flexi (on MTN, tower dependent) - 100 + 100 GB = R389
(can last 2 months & apparently able to rollover more, though yet to test this out - in a few days I will, with a current package I'm using).

contact rain rep 4 days ago no response and the private thread pages long and issue still unresolved when will capacity on rain network be increased I mean I've been complaining about slow speeds for three years straight but they have done nothing to improve network but continue to signup people in this area.

If someone on the street tried to pull a rain on someone they would have been arrested for fraud a long time ago.
