I am thinking of getting an uncapped account with imagine-ips. I am currently on a 384k line with a 3gb account from Cybersmart, very happy with the service, downloads and gaming pings. But I am changing jobs and want to have more bandwidth available at home.

So as usual I turn to the top place to find out info on any ADSL ISP. MyADSL Forums (woot)

Does anyone have any experience using imagine-ips as an isp, in terms of the uncapped accounts. Also if anyone uses an imagine-ips account for gaming it would be cool to know how it performs.

It looks like imagine-ips runs on Internet Solutions backbone (their smtp server is smtp.isdsl.net, thats a bit of a clue). I dont know how an IS based account compares to a SAIX one (which AFAIK cybersmart is)

Thanks in advance.

SAIX is much better. IS always having problems. you can get uncapped SAIX accounts through DataPro.. probably a lot more expnsive though.

how much is the Imagine uncapped account?

Hi Psykro

What sort of services do you plan on using your uncapped account for? Will it be for local or international gaming?

PostmanPot - DataPro sell IS uncapped accounts, not SAIX. So far as I know, there are no SAIX uncapped accounts. The reason is that IS have most of the local content, so SAIX cannot afford to offer uncapped local as it leaves their network.

incorrect.

i was using a friend's DataPro uncapped SAIX account this month, it had done about 50GB this month and 60GB last month. i checked the SAIX ADSL Stats.

cheers :)

The Imagine-ips uncapped account on a 384k line is R890 p/m ex vat.

And I only play local games online. I actually only play counter-strike source online.

I want to use the account mainly for ftp upload/downloads (web site updates) for work and online research etc. I would also like to be able to download a lot from the internet (game demos, streaming media, rapidshare etc) all http downloads, no p2p.

I've currently got the Imagine 512 unshaped/uncapped package and it's about R1650 per month (+ the Telkom charges) - use p2p 24/7 as well as the usual mail/web/downloads, own website, etc. - speeds quite good (46-71KB), and recently not too many disconnects or international problems with IS... suits me fine for now and average 3-6GB per day... :D

how do you get 71KB/sec on a 512 line?

...not sure how or why - seems to be erratic at times, with a standard average of 61KB - frequently get 2-7 minute bursts above this on p2p and http downloads... maybe just a good line? I tend to find it happens more so towards the second half of the month...

Thanks man, its nice to be able to get input from people who already use it.

Just an interesting point. The company I currently work for is on the IS network, and we where down this morning from about 6am to about 10am as IS was "experiencing difficulties"........fun.
