Import of Goods - VAT Claim

Good Day All.

im wondering is someone has any knowledge of claiming Customs VAT back on Imported Goods.

so basically when i import tangible goods, customs VAT kicks in and charges a 15% on the cost of the goods paid.
now since i do not have any know-how on clearing the goods, i will be using a Clearing and Forwarding Agent. they will obviously bill me for the whole lot, such as ocean freight, docs, clearing, storage, cargo dues, etc.
those VAT fees are all minor as its not much on those items, however, i have seen the most of the VAT is charged on Customs VAT.

On the Agents tax invoice the Customs VAT is there and i will have to pay all the duties incl the Customs VAT, but on the Agents invoice there is a subtotal amount, and a VAT amount (excl Customs VAT) and a Total amount.

my question is, who claims that Customs VAT back, me as a imported (btw i am VAT Registered) or does the Clearing Agent claim the VAT?

thank you for your time

It can be done, depending on what you import, the origin & destination country and a few other factors.

I dont think its worth it to attempt as an individual, neither will it be worth it, if the value is fairly low.

Its a highly admin intensive task, that takes quite some time to process. If you are confident that it will be worth your while, contact a VAT reclaims agent to assist you.
