I am so tired of trying to get adsl. We have ISDN at the moment, but it costs us as much as adsl would. Complaints are ignored and I don't know where to turn to. If anyone have any advice - PLEASE HELP. Below is my account of service I have received since I submitted an order for adsl:

May 24, 2004. (0800 237 500) Speak with Brenda.
Ask me to fax the contract to 0800 456 786 (which Allen just told me is the incorrect number!!!!!)
Tells me it will take 7-14 days after the fax is received.

May 25, 2004 (0800 237 500) Didn’t get the ladies name.
Phone to make sure the fax was received and whether the order went through. She tells me I have to phone back tomorrow as it can take 2 days to receive the fax.
Also tells me it will take 7-14 days after fax is received.

May 26, 2004 (0800 237 500) Speak to Suriya
Order is still not in. SHE tells me it can take up to 7 days before the fax is received!!!!! I must phone back in a week’s time.
SHE says it can take up to 21-30 days after the fax has been received. I told her that Brenda and the other women gave me other time estimates, but she told me they were lying. (Why??) I asked her to transfer me to Brenda so I can ask her why she lied to me, but Suriya tells me they don’t do transfers. Then I asked her to go and call Brenda so I can speak to her, but Suriya says she can’t leave her station, she needs to answer calls. I told her I’ll hold then no calls can come through while she calls Brenda, but she just refused.

June 8, 2004. (0800 237 500) Speak to Allan
I phone just to make sure what is happening to the order, because at this time the ADSL can almost be installed!!! Allan tells me Brenda gave me the wrong fax number and my contract has never been received. He gives me the correct number (I hope):0800 203 736.
So the process is starting over, he says the fax can be processed by tomorrow and then I have to wait another 9-14 days.

Today 11 June, Speak to Gill
Sorry, your contract has not been received.
I sent the contract twice on June 8 and I have a report that it went through.
I asked her how I can get the contract to her as this fax thing is obviously not working. No response.

Wonderful. This ADSL is really urgent and I don’t know what to do to actually get it. Who can I contact? Where can I complain? Nobody comes back to with any info. It is ridiculous.

PS. Before this order I submitted an order for ADSL, but when I called them back in about 10 days, the order has been lost and nobody knew what I was talking about!!! That is when I submitted this order, AFTER THE PREVIOUS ONE HAS BEEN LOST.

I think you need to do a face-to-face thing with your nearest service centre. At least there's a person behind the counter, instead of a disembodied, vacuous ignoramous at the other end of the line...

We sometimes get the run around when faxing applications to Telkom. The funny thing is they often claim not to have received it and ask you to fax it again. Then what happens? A month after doing the installation they rock up again wanting to install a 2nd time!

They not only waste clients time, but their own expenses and loose income as well. They badly need to sort their admin out!

A friend of mine had a phone call today from Telkom wanting to move a phone line to his new address. Trouble is he moved 5 years ago and canceled the old phone at the time. Neither of us can fathom how that one happened.

I also had problems faxing Telkom.

It seems as if Telkom does not have the capability to hire staff who can operate even a fax machine properly[:p]

This should be enough reason for ICASA to revoke Telkom's license - a company who can't even operate a fax service reliably, is a menace in to telecoms industry![:D]

I also had the exact same problem!!

Eventually I got the order through,

Then I got turned down, REASON: to far from exchange. I had to then fight with Telkom, and explain to them that I am not too far as a rule. The fact that my neighbour got ADSL wasn't enough evidence for them to consider otherwise.

Eventually gave up and cancelled my order. (after months and months)

/sigh

They don't always say it, but they expect a deposit. I had the same problem a while ago on a different land line and when I paid in a huge deposit they promptly arrived.

Cheers

Remember me? The lady in Benoni who was refused ADSL because of the 'too far from the exchange' excuse. Well, I have reapplied twice since then and all I have got is the tech coming out, looking around and saying he will be back just now and never returning! Complaints to the ADSL order departmnent is just met with 'You are too far from the exchange.' Now I find that odd as I did read somewhere on this site about how Telkom was going to be putting new (insert technical word here) on the exchanges to make it possible for subscribers who are further out to get ADSL. BTW 3 kms from Benoni center isnt far out to me, but it appears to be to Telkom. Can anyone tell me where I saw it so I can go back with some proof to those blank faced employees of Telkom.
