I bought a prepaid Cell C SIM end of January 2013 for my tablet. I loaded it with R50 of airtime, and then bought a 50MB data bundle for R7.50. I *should* have been able to get around 333MB of data from my R50 worth of airtime, but was surprised to find out today that all my airtime was gone... Let's check my statement:
04/02/2013 08:30 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
03/02/2013 08:49 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
03/02/2013 08:31 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
02/02/2013 08:44 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
02/02/2013 08:23 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
01/02/2013 11:24 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
01/02/2013 08:01 Other INTEG101 1 4.99

I don't know what the heck that is? This SIM is living in my tablet... If you look at my "message history" on the Cell C site you'll see:
No messages have been sent from this account in the last three (3) months.

How do I fix this? Burn the SIM card, and get another one, or actually attempt to resolve this? This is just very very wrong to me. Somehow I got subscribed to a content service of some sorts, without actually being able to use USSD on the tablet :wtf:

You are now in February you suppose to purchase the bundle every 30 days in order to take advantage of the 15 cent per meg fee. January you loaded data, but come February you didn't purchase the bundle and got billed OOB- out of bundle.

Phuma, if you are sure you didn't subscribe to anything, you should be able to get your money back.

But good luck with that. Cell C is happy to take the money out of your account. They will pass the buck to the so called "billing platform", who you have to contact yourself, and the "billing platform" will pass the buck to the content provider, maybe a horoscope site/pron/ringtones whatever, who you have to contact yourself again.

Cell C subscribers are guilty until proven innnocent.

If you are given a "proof of subscription" please post it here.

I saw your thread of despair. I don't quite feel like going through all that effort for R35, but I also think it is criminal that money were just stolen from me via a brand new Cell C prepaid sim.

It's kind of hard to subscribe to anything from my Nexus 7 device since it cannot do USSD...

My exact steps were:
* got the SIM from Game, bought airtime at teller
* put SIM in Nexus, realize I cannot do USSD
* put SIM in Nokia E71, load R50 airtime with USSD, buy cheapest data bundle with USSD
* insert SIM into Nexus 7 again, and have not taken it out again

Why do *I* have to waste time on this now?

This number just rings. Nobody is answering. How do I find out who authorized this?

Is it worth complaining at WASPA? What is the best way to resolve this silliness?

Seriously?!! I bought R20 of airtime just to get going this morning. And here we have them again:

20/02/2013 08:41 Other INTEG101 1 4.99
20/02/2013 08:30 Other INTEG101 1 4.99

How do they know I have money?

The correct number to call for Integrat (www.integrat.co.za) is 011 062 1400.

On the phone with them now... apparently subscribed to the service in November 2011. Bit before I had the number. They are going to send me an email with the proof of subscription. I already got an SMS on the tablet telling me that I've cancelled all my "clubs". I will allegedly get a refund within 7 days.

Let's hope.

Of course it "just rings". They don't want you to reach them.
And did you check your airtime before and after you called? You were being billed while it was ringing.
EDIT: And not only that, the billing is per minute, even though I am on per second billing. So Cell C expects its subscribers to call a VAS rated number and hope their airtime doesn't run out before they can talk to a human.:mad:

There is no way that a poor person who is not computer literate and able to resort to forums and emails will be able to get his money back.

Mo matter how this matter is resolved, report a case to police, WASPA(sp?). This is evident example of fraud. It might be other cases, it will assist victims.

Your number was recycled...

Isn't there a central database whereby you can put the number in question to see if you registered for content services I am worried about getting a starter pack and to my discovery I am registered to content service that chows my money

best bet is as soon as you activate to call your sp and check if its not subscribed to any services, you may laugh but i do this every couple of months on all my numbers to be safe.
Between the Sp's and WASPS you cant be too careful, no one checks this and who know how you can get subscribed to this crap

Not one that I know of no. Quite unfair to the new number holder imo. They should auto-unsubscribe numbers that had 2 failed billing months consecutively and then get the providers to wait 2 months before recycling a disconnected number ... or something similar that protects the new owner in the end. Not sure if there are enough numbers in the wild to allow the providers to do this though.

I just think it's unfair WASPA seriously needs to introduce a database of some sort I think it's unfair for new subscribers who want to be part of the network then to their discovery they notice their number is subscribed to some content server charged at VAS(value-added services) then they deduct R10, R5, R3,R2, a day or more cause then content in question is re-occurring. I want peace of mind.

It might be a loophole in the regulation covering 3rd party services, or just WASPA not doing what it should do. 3rd parties want business, it should be their responsibility for regular checking with network provider if their subscription is still valid. If they don't, they should be fined or prevented from doing business. Simply like that.

What you suggest it would add unneccessary burden on the organisation which already doesn't seem to function properly.
