Increasing problem of blinding car headlights

Ha - you okes should come drive around with your LED/Xenon/Laser lights here in the Free State...
You haven't seen Brights like the ones the farmers have here - you can taste it.
Jirr, 3rd degree burns boss.
Ja, next to the ***hole(s) who develops an app, that have no dark mode. White light in the night, being half-asleep, trying to make out the text in the searing light that is brighter than the sun...

This is a real problem. Bright lights are a trigger for pretty severe migraines, and these non-dimming drivers are major culprits. I even had a special night light tint put on my glasses to mitigate for this.

My first car was a 1981 Golf GTS - it also had the additional 2 driving lights in the grille - I fitted 2 x 80/100W Hella Rally main headlight bulbs & 2 x 100W bulbs for the driving lights, plus an upgraded relay - so instead of 110W (2x55W) dipped beam, I had 160W (2x80W) and instead of 230W main beam (2x60W & 2 x55W), I had 400W (4x100W).

When oncoming vehicles didn't dip their lights, I hit them with 400W and they immediately dimmed theirs... ;)

Might be an option ...

Must look into this, tho those I tried and this was admittedly more than a few years ago, cut the distance and area one could see in too much.

A far bigger issue for me are the idiots with their 4x4’s or pretend 4x4’s SUV who half park on every sidewalk or sometimes entirely.

Now the pedestrians who the sidewalk was made for all need to walk in the road because there is a fat car in the way that should have been in the road that was made for it.

Just yesterday around 05h20, this Land Cruiser 79 (yes, the "farmer" bakkie) literally blinded me and he was passing me (same lane) on the highway. The weather was rather cloudy and a bit darker yet those lights were extremely sharp and bright.

As he was coming closer, my thinking was that it was one of the recent SUVs, like your G wagon, Range rover or the like. When he passed by I went, "the f@ck"!

Likely add-ons.

The problem with the LED replacing the halogen bulbs are that the source of light is not in the same spot. inevitably the LED is further out from the base, fans and cooling properties. when looking from the front is it bright as hell, but the light is not focused. You driving with them barely see anything because the light is dispersed, meanwhile anyone in front of you get their eyes burnt out.

My UP! can do it too. Its annoying and my only gripe with the Navara.

Heres a few mentions of the issue:
Now that is bad news! Mine is the 2007 model, still going very very well. This model came out with the headlight adjustment switch in the Cab.

I also did a suspension upgrade on the back with far better leaf springs, plus air suspension and levelling kits on the front suspension. This added 50 -80 mm to vehicle height, which is a simple matter to adjust for. I readjusted the lights manually to get the full benefit out of cab light adjustment switch and, when really loaded, the air suspension can always be raised some more. what is really great with this arrangement is when off-roading, I can set the lights deliberately higher with a simple adjustment of the internal beam setting switch.

So if one bothers to think these things through, there is zero problem associated with blinding oncoming vehicles.

Problem is the majority of the population are blissfully unaware that there is a problem.

Im thinking of asking Nissan to set them a drop lower when I go for my next service. I know I can ten to one do it myself, but Ill ask first since Im lazy and tend to fix things until they break

I avoid driving at night if I can specifically for this reason. I have light sensitive eyes, and glasses that helps for it, but it's still rough sometimes when some cars don't dim their lights.

Because rather than have one blinded driver, let's have two driving towards each other?
Sounds like a recipe for #Winning.

Yeah, better to wait until just before you pass each other and then put your high beams on, that way of the idiot crashes it happens behind you.

There is no simple solution but I have noticed that when in the Jetta with its very bright brights, people will turn off their brights when I flash them. When in the wife's Atos, they tend to ignore when you flash them.

These days I see oncoming brights I just turn my brights on and leave them on till I either pass the other driver or till they turn their brights off.
