India's first low-cost PC has been launched in the Tamil Nadu state capital of Madras, reports BBC News.
The report says the PC has been designed by IT firm HCL Infosystems to include all the basic features required for a first-time users as well as being upgradeable, but is priced at only 9 990 rupees (under R1 400).
The low-cost PC is expected to increase India's level of computer penetration and spread Internet connectivity across the country.
The government wants to increase the number of PC users from 15 million to 75 million and to go from 5 million Internet connections to 45 million by 2010.
