Quinton de Kock:

No. 1 - No. 6: 22 innings, 627 runs @29.85, 5 X 50s
No. 7 & below: 23 innings, 1014 runs @53.36, 3 X 100s, 6 X 50s

Interesting. I always thought he needs to move up the order as I felt he kept running out of partners, thus negating his effectiveness, but the stats don't lie. Up the order isn't working for him.

He was probably told to go out and smash everything. Faf probably wants to declare around tea.

Also easy to get not outs at 7 or below, as he's the last good batsman, which helps the average.

How is the pitch playing? Is it just bad batting in an effort to score runs or is it the pitch?

Mohammed Shami to Philander, 1 run, mix-up! Good length and swinging in at the pad. Shovels it wide of midwicket and strolls down the pitch ball watching again! Faf won't even look at Philander. He is fuming after responding to that run. He makes the crease though as the throw is wide

They almost did it again? :wtf:

Faf seems intent on playing 5 bowlers. So unless they pick a batting bowler, he seems doomed to be 6th in. If it's psychological, maybe play Vern in at 6?

Also easy to get not outs at 7 or below, as he's the last good batsman, which helps the average.

He has scored 400 more runs in at 7 & below. I think the good Agent may have a point here.

Yep. Reckon SA would be happy to try add about 100 runs in the next session and put India in later today to chase 300+

I'd rather see them play for time. Plan to leave the Indians with 90 - 100 overs in which to get 10 poles. If the're doing 98 overs tomorrow too, then I'd say they should aim to have them in the field by +/- 5 - 10 overs left in today's play.

Doesn't look like the pitch is misbehaving too much.

The uneven bounce is exaggerated when the ball is new. Faf will want 2 new balls. He will want about 100 overs.
India also needs to make the play , they have to win to have a chance of a series win. Batting at a decent pace won't be easy.
