Ankit Sampat: "We got just under 8 overs to try and maximise the lead. As soon as the new ball is taken, India will be bowled out in less than 2-3 overs."

Assuming they're still there, of course.

Current run-rate in past 10 = 4 per over. That'd put them another 32 - 40 ahead. The lead will be 258 - 266.

Ai tog.

Mohammed Shami can leave the pitch with honour. He's done his job.

Leaving/blocking and hoping for bad balls is not going to win this match. You need to go after everything and hope it comes off.

I wouldn't just randomly swing at everything, but we need to be positive. Our run rate needs to be at around 4 an over. Put the pressure onto them

Cricketing lessons:

Srinivas: "Some cricketing lessons please.. What do you mean by South Africa opted for a heavy roller? I remember reading India opted for a light roller when they started off their second innings. Does this mean the team coming in to bat can choose? I always thought such decisions are not taken by the team management. " ---- Yes, the batting team always has the option.

Gopal: "What difference does a soft or heavy roller make? Explain like I'm five please" --- ELI5 version: A heavy roller is usually brought out to flatten a pitch that might be uneven. Although sometimes a heavy roller isn't preferred since it could break up existing cracks in the pitch. A light roller is preferred on pitches that are already flat.

This isn't good news at all :(

Bumrah to Elgar, no run, struck on the helmet. Short of a length ball shoots up from the surface at an off stump line. He's looking to defend when, the next moment, he feels the impact. Flush on the front of the helmet. Looks to be in shock. That was scary. Very very scary. He's on his feet, thanks to the superior grille protection.

Elgar has an ice pack on his forehead. The match referee Andy Pyrcroft is walking out now...right they've had a conversation and the umpires are splitting to discuss this with Kohli and the batsmen. The players are coming off.

We're back at it. The umpires are discussing the safety of this pitch again. You have to wonder - if they've had to discuss the safety seven, eight times a day, isn't that an indicator of the conditions? It's taken a hit on the head for a serious consideration.

5:12pm We don't have an official update on the call. The Indian players are hovering about near the dugout. The two captains are now heading into the refereee's room. The replays of the ball show this was in the short pitched region - 8.5 metres from the base of the stumps - so there is an argument to be made that this is not a pitch issue. But the situation now is more about recent history than that one ball. Stand by for updates.

Wasn't THAT full a delivery. Kohli's a twat, but I think he has right to feel aggrieved here if they call it off. Elgar just didn't play it well.

Safety of the players should be solely up to the umpires. Not sure why they involve the captains.

Didn't really matter. 10 mins later it started to rain. But yes was quite bizarre to come off.

'It's not a dangerous wicket' - Rahane. Ajinkya Rahane gives his thoughts on the state of the Johannesburg pitch after play came to an early end on day three of the third Test

Easy for the lad to spin it after they've posted a competitive target ;)
