12.30 pm There was the fear of the worst happening, but the umpires choosing to use a heavy roller might have helped dull the pitch just enough that batsmen do stand a chance now. The ball is also a bit softer, it's 28 overs old and doesn't have the pace a brand new nut does. Nevertheless, Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla still had to use every ounce of application and mental strength to walk in at 11 am and walk away now unbeaten. It is the first wicketless session of the entire Test match and it's only spurring the anticipation of the fans. India need nine pins to fall. South Africa need 172 runs.

On the Pakistani cricket forum I follow the Indian posters are all crying foul and that we doctored the pitch overnight.
