Inexpensive (well, cheaper than premium at least) tablet?

It seems almost all tablets suffer from poor touch sensitivity...well all cheap (anything under 6K) Android tablets anyways so that's not much of an issue, at least not something that can be fixed on a budget on current tech. That screen however that IS a fix to the crap situation almost all other tablets find themselves in.

Hopefully Durbs (Springfield) has a better stock situation. That said tech shipments should start coming any day now again (many companies don't get new tech stock from December to mid-Feb or so)

Yes, that screen is the biz-niz...

I had an issue initially with the screen touch sensitivity. However I think it's some coating they put on the new ones. Screen felt a bit tacky. And my fingers didn't slide over it. But after a couple of days it went away. Weird. Doesn't feel like that at all now

I wish all touch devices had matte screens or plastic matte screen protectors. It feels so much better, had one on my old phone and then also slapped one on the tempered glass protector of my new phone. You lose a bit of screen bang (and a lot of glare if you're in a dark environment) but the touch experience is so much better.

I'm sure that I won't have a problem with the HiSense though...not if I'm managing to put up with this perpetually unresponsive Proline AK888-15B (I finally figured out what my current tablet is). Apparently whoever put the Proline together took 5-point touch to mean that it's only meant to work on every 5th touch. And there's even less response close to the bezel.

Buy a Cube T9 from a reputable site. LTE, retina display. Great battery, but realistically, no warranty without shipping it back to where it came from.

I have had mine for over a year and the battery is still great.

Never even heard of that...and I'd prefer the warranty rests with someone local. But thanks for the suggestion, it looks really good.

Got the last Hisense Sero 8 that Springfield had reserved for me. I'll see when I can fetch it.

Thanks falcon786 for first mentioning it and then Suspect99 for finding the "hidden" link to the tablet for me (it's not in the main list of tablets at HiFi-Corp)

I'm glad you managed to get one.

Let us know your thoughts on the tab especially battery life once you get it....I tried to buy one for my kids yesterday online but the site doesn't want to accept a gift card I have from them so I'll probably have to go get it in store....my local store has two.

Specs on the tablet.

Would that Dual Core not be sluggish trying to power that display?

Since when is 4 cores dual?

I don't really care if it's sluggish though. Of course it would be nice if it wasn't but my only criteria were a better screen (so 1080P or better) and battery life than my current tablet for as little money as possible, anything else is a bonus.
I never expected to get the total package for less than 3-4K. I know I'm gonna get shafted somewhere at a sub-2K price point.

One idiosyncrasy it apparently has though that might be off-putting is a lack of volume rocker.

Typo, sorry Quad Core.

On reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Tab s2 8 with octo core, even they thought it was too sluggish to power that screen, something thats put me off these Droid tablets but will be interested to take a look for that price its not bad.

Look its not a top of the range tablet for over R9000. It costs R1400. There have to be compromises somewhere.
OP said he wanted a decent screen and better battery for cheap. Didn't want tons of power. This tablet fits the bill.

I use it for hearthstone and clash of clans and it deals with it fine.

I consider tablets toys. The only toys I'd consider spending flagship pricing on are are a flagship smartphone or PC GPU, not a bigger less portable version of what my smartphone can already do entertainment wise.
To be perfectly honest I was looking for a glorified E-Reader, that's the only purpose this tablet absolutely has to fulfill and I know that a 1024x600 screened tablet does not meet that purpose. Surprisingly that's quite hard to find though, almost everything is at best 1280x800 or more likely 1024x600.

That said according to reviews the hardware is surprisingly capable. Good benchmarks and just under 30FPS in games (which is in line with all but the best smartphones, at least from last year). Apparently though it has poor touch latency so I guess it is somewhat sluggish. Don't care though, speed isn't important when "flipping" pages.

Ok. HiFi Corp have acknowledged my payment so now it's just up to me/a family member to fetch it which will probably only be Friday or Saturday though (it has been reserved and I can only hope they honour that and don't turn around and give it to the first other person that shows interest).

I'll be sure to let you all know what it's like. (Though unfortunately there isn't that much point due to the almost non-existant stock situation).

Got the tablet. Unfortunately back to work so don't even have time to do the initial charge so I'll have to do that tonight and will thus likely only get to play with it tomorrow sometime. Very pleasantly surprised to find that a protective cover came for free with the device. The colour is fugly (like a weird beige grey dirty looking thing) but since it's such a rare tablet I'd have a major headache searching for another and it's 100-200 bucks I don't need to spend anymore so I really am quite pleased.

No I meant the back-cover was the ugly colour. Not sure what colour tablet I got (everything still sealed). That'll only be revealed once I get back from work, I'd love red but whatever is fine.
