Telegram scammers giving South African companies the runaround

JSE-listed mining company Afrimat has had its hands full with scammers pretending to be its representatives on the popular messaging platform Telegram for nearly two years.

The company recently put out at least its third statement to the public, warning people to be wary of con artists.

No matter what you do there will always be some stupid person who falls for scams. Always a cheap deal or get rich schemes that people fall for.

Having on Whatapp the person's ID etc (via RICA?) also seems to amount to nothing. Whoever then has the authority (SAPS?) to investigate and make crime pay does nothing.

The other preventive measure on Whatapp would be to make it harder to create a business account. Ask for full business credentials to check for impersonation etc. I do not somehow see Whatapp doing this

I still want to find out if there is a way to find out what numbers are RICA to you name or ID.
