I'm compiling a short A5 insert that can be inserted into the data card box with relevant information.

For example which smtp server to use to send mail, where to see the coverage map, warnings about background downloads, the lightweight usage page, etc.

Basically info that should be given pro-actively.

What should I add, i.e. what info would you have found useful when you first got your data card?

Helpdesk no and procedure as posted yesterday.

Unbelievable but I'm getting too many support calls from clients that 3G is not working turning out card is not inserted properly - any "hammers" to show people how to properly insert card will be excellent. Hammers required to penetrate thick pre-techno era skulls :)

BTW: What is that black flat piece of plastic with a tail on doing in the package? People might read loose junk paper falling out more readily than decent manuals.

It's a laptop typing angle-adjuster. You put it under the front of your laptop to vary the keyboard angle. Idea is to reduce RSI while typing. Tail is for easy removal (You basically just yank it out)

Actually, it is a data "showerhead", to keep you virus-free.

@v3g, whilst we're on the subject of the flat black plastic with rodent tail [vibrator for mouse  :D], are there stats about how many of the clip-on antennas and the flanges that clip into the data cards, get damaged & returned to Vodacom to be replaced [or do customers just not bother with clip-on antennas after they've broken the flanges]?
</off_topic>

Have not really heard of any being returned, but will ask.

Do you guys see them breaking? I've not broken any of mine and I use a number of antennas on a number of data cards.

Flanges the option card fitted the a/e plug at the outmost point of the card where as the novatel is better sitauted near the main body of the laptop and is more protected

Info. on the error messages might help.
Also abit of info. on the profiles you know if keep getting disconnects try changing profile blah, blah, blah.

V3g i dont think it will be a short list i know cause i made one up for the guys in our group as everytime someone gets a data card i get a call and go and sit with them and set it up. I think people need to be aware of download site for updates and data usage and things like that.

1) Where and how to check Actual usage. Clearly warn that the VMC is inaccurate.

2) Suggest to new customer using 155 to block after account after limit has been exceeded.

New to HSDPA - came here looking for the right smtp server setting and just realised I've got a lot to learn about optimising the service

V3G - when you get that A5 page (or 2) together, could you please email me a copy?

Sorry about the double post, but maybe a note about the web browser default home page is worth mentioning.

I reset my browser home page to about:blank because what I had before was a fair sized download and I did not really need to see it everytime I opened my web browser.

Could add up for someone on a tight budget!
