Cold call crackdown in South Africa

South Africa's Information Regulator will soon take decisive action against direct marketers contravening the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) through spam calls.

Information Regulator chair Pansy Tlakula told 702 that the watchdog is finalising the publication of a guidance note which effectively says telemarketing amounts to electronic communication and must adhere to POPIA.

The real crackdown, is that no-one is picking up any calls, they are not expecting, any more.

They have been pissing in the pool too aggressively the last few years, It's now just a pool of piss. I hope they drown in it!

Why I have a very long Block list

Have had alot spam callers recently call and mid sales pitch the call gets cut. Dunno why,maybe no airtime ,don't care.

If they get past my block list, I just tell, "Not interested, thank you Goodbye" and add to the block list

Some numbers are shared. A few months for weeks from now, you might miss a call you're expecting.

I've experienced that twice, and this is a problem. It's not often, but if it becomes more often, what are we to do? Spammers and legit callers using the same number.

I agree but what is an agent at a big corporation, like bank or insurance, going to do? He doesn't have a lot of options.
