InnJoo Fire 16GB 3G Smartphone review. These were going for R1499 @ takealot, then reduced to R1199, cashed in on the latter price.

Received the item.

Wil be reviewing.
Post a review on YouTube please. There aren't enough reviews by English speaking people.

Do you think the injoo fire will look ok in white or will emphasise the quality of plastic being cheap and nasty.

I see it is available in white with a gold back cover or white with a fake bamboo back cover.

Cheers

OK, so I ordered one based on Bond's review to date, I reckon it's a bargain at this price point.

... I mean, if it's not quite what it's cracked up to be I'm sure it'll find a place in someones xmas stocking :)

Injoo Fire 16GB Smartphone - Android 4.4.2 Review
Availability: Takealot
Price: R1199
Specs:
- Android 4.4
- 2G RAM + 16GROM
- 5 MP + 5 MP Camera
- 3G + WiFi
- GPS
- Dual SIM
- Micro USB
- 5 Point capacitive touch screen
- CPU MTK Quadcore 1.3GHZ
- 2500mAH Lithium Battery

What's in the Box:
- Handset
- Battery
- Charging Cable
- Charger
- Earphones
- Pouch/Cover

Device weighs 162g and has 142.5 * 72.7 * 8.9mm dimensions. Available in black, white, gold and Wood grain.
Body is plastic, doesn't feel premium. Glass fitted is a Dragontrail Glass (vs Gorilla Glass: http://www.fastcompany.com/1719138/dragontrail-vs-gorilla-super-tough-glass-game)

Boasts a 178 degree viewing angle, which isn't too shabby practically. Screen is responsive, although nothing close to high end smartphones.
5” QHD IPS screen @ 960 * 540 for a poor 220ppi for 2015 standards. Screen res is disheartening, but hey it’s not R2500. Plus device performs very poor against director-ish sunlight

Phone is equipped with 2GB RAM, which does feel the part coupled with its 1.3Ghz Quad Core processor. Fitted with Mali-400MP GPU which is a bit old (2008) but I haven’t played games and stuff, wouldn’t really know how powerful it is. But I’ve played 1080p videos, no lag with MX Player

Apps which I know are intensive, working quite smoothly, and time lapse doesn't really affect the phone's swiftness

Dual SIM, both active, can choose intuitively which to call/SMS/data with

No LTE, only 3G: Up to 21.1 Mbps downlink; Up to 5.76 Mbps uplink

WiFi been stable, no issues here (Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot)
Call quality is good. Comes preloaded with the TouhcPal keyboard, which was responsive and wasn’t as accurate (no big fingers). But I got SwiftKey and typing is ok

There's a lot of bloatware and superfluous apps installed out of the box including proprietary apps. The Good thing is that it can be rooted and all these apps can be removed

Camera is 5MP, both front and back. Camera is somewhat intelligent so far tested with correct exposure and ISO, although some images weren’t a true reflection of what I saw, especially in terms of colours. Pics are around 700 – 800KB, but are supposed to be double that in theory at 100%. Some form of compression heavily working here. As a result, you won’t get the sharpest images. Saturation off the bat is a bit much (than my liking). Although both cameras are 5MP, they put all the brains and processing to the back camera

Sample pics:

2.1 http://imgur.com/YAEAWN8 - Back cam
2.2 http://imgur.com/9bbM9iK - Selfie cam
3. http://imgur.com/pQP40DM - Panorama

5. http://imgur.com/T0glbHD
6. http://imgur.com/R0120Yk
7. http://imgur.com/I7yq0sC

Comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. And no sign of Android 5.0+ so far from the manufacturers.
Custom ROMs are also available online. One issue thus far detected that custom ROMs address is the dual 3G/WCDMA compatibility issue, it seems only 1 sim card can be set to 3G/WCDMA only at a time.
GPS works (Maps) fine thus far as tested. Also got to download Maps Here which works fine too.

Fitted with a 2500mAh battery, thus far I’m impressed with the battery life and it charges quite quickly with my Romoss powerbank.

@ R1199, it’s a pretty good deal and nothing comes close to its price bracket! Go get!

Thanks for the review.
What's the sound quality like using headphones? Also the volume level?

Haven't checked. It comes with in-ear earphones. Will check with them tonight + the headphones I have.

No, don't use the stock music player anyway, don't think so.

I'm sure this is customisable or ap based?

I think he means add a video review on youtube.....

one question I had,

the S3 has it, and you can get a app that lets you control any kind of TV

No, I have this phone as well, and I couldn't update youtube. I had to root the thing and delete files manually, so I was curious whether it was the same in his case.

Also, no IR blaster.

I don't follow you, you can't upload YouTube videos or wha?

It comes with youtube pre installed, but it's version 5.7.41. The newest version of youtube is version 10. I couldn't update from version 5 to version 10 of youtube.

Yeah, just noticed this.

Yeah, there's no update on play, and manually installing the APK doesn't work, but then again the APK website said 10 was for Android 6.0+

My Z3 which updates each month is on 10.40.58 ....
And I'm still back on Lollipop 5.01 (didn't update to 5.1 cuz I'd lose "easy" root)

There are two ways to fix it. The easy way is, factory reset your phone and then go into Clean Master and uninstall Youtube through it.

The more difficult way is, root the phone, go into the system folder and manually delete it all, restart the phone and then it installs.
