Every few weeks there is someone asking here about Usenet and news servers. I thought I would start on a newbie guide to save everyone answering the same old questions again and again. I have made a bit of a cryptic start, and would appreciate helpful comments, and possibly contributions where I am a bit clueless. I will flesh it out as time allows. What I have done is at:

Thanks!

Hey, this is exactly what I was looking for. Awesome work.

A question: I am contemplating subscribing to easynews. I would like to know from any ZA users who are subscribed - What sort of download speeds do you get (i've got a 4mb line)?

Excellent newsserver - using them you do not really need to know to much about usenet. They have a web interface which I use as well as an excellent global search, which basically ensured that I do not need to use torrents at all.

My speeds are 50 kilobytes per second per stream( one of Telkoms thingies when downloading from overseas, I do not know how they do it) so if you use 8 channels for your download you will get the 4 mbits per second
