Insomnia help needed.

Just adding a few more things:
Exercise in the morning (google the science behind it)
Don't drink caffeine after 3pm
Wear an eye mask. It blocks out the light around you which tells your body to spike melatonin.
Cold shower before bed. It's a bit hardcore but you will sleep like a baby at the tit.
Nee fok, jys mal.

I would start with punctuation and capitalisation, and then take it from there.

For the last couple of weeks I cant sleep. I wake up at 01:30 and then might fall asleep again around 04:30. What can I do? It's killing me. I start work at 06:00 am, but cant function. I have tried Somnil, but makes me feel like a Zombie, and does not help me sleep.
THC

Works but you get poor quality sleep and no dreams.

@Willie Trombone advice is very good.
My better half suffered from insomnia for many years but has incredibly bad habits. These days she is out before I am by following roughly that advice.
No phones or tv in the room.
Regular exercise, I’ve read articles that say as little as 2 minutes of intense exercise in the morning is good enough. Personally feel that 10minuted is better but 20 is optimum.
Reading and a bit of stretching/yoga before bed.
Becomes easy to build on those basics.

Insomnia is usually a compound issue. Best remedies:

- Exercise - get lots of exercise. If you can't join a gym, google "The Body Coach" or something and do some 30 minute HIT workouts during the day.

- Don't eat later than 6:30 - try to be done with dinner by 6:30

- Don't load up on social media. Wean yourself off and limit it to certain times of day then put your phone on charge at 7pm somewhere out of reach and only look at it the next day. DO NOT put it next to the bed. This one is a big deal for most these days.

- Watch TV till 8pm at the latest - blue light from screens inhibits the sleep hormone.

- A small (half a mug) of warm milk before brushing teeth and bed can help.

It might take a week of doing the above to get past the issues and start sleeping properly, but be consistent. Don't self medicate for the sake of sleep - it's never a long term solution. Try to get your brain to do less after hours is the key. Start a routine and stick with it.
Great. Now OP is drowning in snot due to lactose intolerance.
On a serious note, I avoid milk after 11.

Before your buddy starts trying random solutions let's identify what they're doing wrong.
Narrow it down and if that doesn't work then look towards medicating.

People complain about not being able to sleep but they're doing all sorts of things that would affect sleep.

Pass this on to them, they can dm me if they don't want it put on a public forum:

  • What time do you go to bed?
  • What time do you wake up?
  • Do you consume any drugs/alcohol/food or snacks that are high in sugar/caffeine within 2 hours of going to bed?
  • Do you use any digital devices right an hour before bed?
  • Has any recent events created stress or left you feeling like you have no options/choice about your current situation or future plans?
  • Are you overweight/have any health issues?
  • Do you exercise at all?
