Why all the talk about cracking windows? I was asking about a Legal version of Vista, just installing it on 2 PCs which is not so legal.

Well cracking Windows and installing a legal single-used copy of Windows on two PCs is just that-- illegal.

your version on vista on the second pc would not have been legal

just because you own a copy does not make anymore legal than ppl who pirate windows once u install on a second pc

Likewise owning a copy of home premium and running ultimate is also illegal, as you are utilising features from a different, more expensive version of the software.

I'm not saying that the way the software licensing works is good, but it's a question of whether it's legal or not.

I think asking whether or not 1 copy can run on 2 pc's is somewhat different that giving out CD keys/pointing to torrent sites with downloads etc.

Anyway I'm off tot he torrent sites :D

imho...i think its fked up that a person in one house must have 2 licence keys for a os from MS.
I am a digital pirate why cause i buy my software once only, and i always install it on both laptop and PC,I refuse to spend another 1000 rand for licensing a second product, when 3000 rand was already spend.

I wonder if your attitude would've been the same if you were one of the directors or shareholders for that matter

plz dont come crying to me about the directors and shareholders of microsoft

lets look at bill gates

60 billion net worth

shame with all of us pirating his software he will in the 20000000000000 years of spending 10k a day need a box to sleep in

im pretty sure the shareholders and directors at microsoft can handle a few ppl pirating their software while they sit back and count their billions while guys who earn 10k a month must forked out 2.5k for vista

yes shame the poor shareholders, i wonder what it must feel like to be a multi millionaire and still moan about ppl pirating as if you could actually spend anymore than you do

someone said something about ethics?

where is ethics in forcing ppl to buy laptops with a slow vista operating system on it
where is the ethics in changing xp slightly and making it look all pretty and claiming its a totally new OS that ppl must pay for like microsoft developed this OS from the ground up

windows xp cost more to develop and cost half the price of vista
they take less time and less resources to make vista and charge twice as much

So you're saying the fact that their successful in what they do make them more pirate worthy. Acer, HP etc don't have to release their "slow" laptops with Vista, nothing is stopping them from pre installing Linux on it or even selling them with no OS.

I'm tempted to use a car analogy again - the new Porche 911 is only slightly different than the older one but it is, according to Porche, better. They also charge more for the new one than for the old one. Does that mean you can justify stealing the new one?

But can we please not turn this into a piracy vs legally using software argument thread? ;)

M$ made thier millions on XP so what if it's copied millions of times it should be free and Vista should be half-price I'll only buy a "legal" copy when it works. :)

Why should it be free? Surely you want to get paid if you've spend a couple of years developing the software
