Hey peeps,

Just wanted to know if anyone knows a date when the new intel chips will be in SA, and if so who will be selling them here and at what price. I'm looking at getting the extreme edition one so just wanted to know if anyone has news?

Can I ask why you want to go for the Extreme Edition?

It will cost close to or even more than R10 000 and wont be that much faster than the model just below it.

I think they get launched about the 23rd of July, then we should have them about the 1st September/October maybe Novemeber. The extreme edition is a total waste of money, but i guess it buys bragging rights.

Nah not really.

I can go and buy an FX 62/ INtel Extreme super duper edition but I dont see the point in spending so much on a CPU.

When I got my 4400+ the FX57 was around R9000 if memory serves and I got the 4400+ for R3500 ish.

The FX60 is even more expensive and its not that much faster.

I just dont see the point in paying more than double for maybe 10% performance increase. (Note I am not 100% on the actual advantage I just know its not that big)

Hey if you got the money to waste go for it. I have the money but I just cant justify the huge price difference.

I have an Opty 165.She can do 800Mhz over stock 24/7.
I am gonna be real real stubborn and wait till january/february next year to make a purchase -GPU or CPU.
I reckon by that time there will be more than enough justification in buying.

LOL it's all relative.

If you making a decent salary and you can afford top of the range then go for it. If you want to be more sensible and save some money then yes a 4800+ is only very slighty slower than a FX60.

Personally I chose sensible as well.

actually:) the E series are the non-extreme versions. i.e. e6800 etc.

the extreme versions are Xblahblah...like x6800

that would make it the X-Penis syndrome.
E-Penis is for the budget conscious.

:D The thing is even with a BIG salary spending R10k on a CPU is not a good move. As always never buy top of the line PC parts.

GPU and CPU being prime examples.

7900GT vs 7900GTX
4400+/4800+ vs FX60

No sir :p

E-Penis does not refer to any particular model numbe, just to the extremely epensive "Look I have one" hardware. :D

They are known as the Pentium D (Model nos 805 to 840) - quoted as:
Intel® Pentium® D 805 2600 2 x 1024K 533FSB S775 EM64T
Intel® Pentium® D 820 2800 2 x 1024K 800FSB S775 EM64T
Intel® Pentium® D 830 3000 2 x 1024K 800FSB S775 EM64T
Intel® Pentium® D 840 3200 2 x 1024K 800FSB S775 EM64T

or have I got it wrong??

@adsl3g: You got me there, but I do know that that is not the right ones, as it would read "Intel Core 2 Duo" and not Pentium D

Edit: I also think that the Core 2 Duo would have two core's each having 2MB cache (4MB in total) that can be used by both or one core.

Apparently when these babies come out, the rest of the chips would have a $ dive of 40%. Perfect time then to build a MCE machine or MCE server or something.

Hmmm - thanks for that - yes they are the Smithfield cores according to Tomshardware. The latest list at tomshardware does not show the new chips (prolly cause they not out yet:rolleyes:

I don't see the point of buying any dual-core processor yet, seeing as windows can split a program across processors anyway.
