Intel tells Arm its product unit is not for sale

Arm Holdings Plc approached Intel Corp. about potentially buying the ailing chipmaker’s product division, only to be told that the business isn’t for sale, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

In the high-level inquiry, Arm didn’t express interest in Intel’s manufacturing operations, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the discussions were private.

With ARM processors picking up speed in the market and even starting to compare against Intel and AMD in Flops per Watt,

I suspect that it should not be long before the x86 architecture is old and deprecated,
with ARM processors dominating the market. Even a new architecture may be bought out and designed. xARM, anyone? an mix between ARM and x86.

Arm is British, owned by Japan. Qualcomm is American. Qualcomm acquiring Intel makes American sense.
