He doesn't think much :/

Imagine lambasting a company because they haven't got a 24hr back up 'incase'

I wonder if the have reservoirs at each branch 'incase' the water runs dry?
Or bunkers 'incase' they nuclear war ?

Those with 200l water reservoirs/JoJo should go 1,000 'incase' ... hell, why stop there ? Overspec !

Government runs country into bankrupt cesspit.

Voterbase: Everyone else's fault for staying here or not being able to adapt.

Africa logic.

They are the ones who will know that for sure, but it's computers and lights, shouldn't be too expensive.
My single network cabinet in my home which runs my switch, router, cctv, micro server, etc cost me R8k in batteries to keep running for about 4 hours.

Running a store with multiple switches, servers, pos, phones, lights, cctv + wiring must cost a substantial amount of money.

Who should pay for these backups which wouldn't be needed if eskom did their job. A job that private companies may not do?

a) The ANC
b) Eskom
c) Mr Price and their customers

I do not know why they even try. In all our large shopping malls, when it is loadshedding, they all close down. Easy as that. No additional expenses. Yes, they do lose business, but then again, not as if there are many people in the malls during those times in any event. Yes, they do retrench staff, but that is economics 101. You have to start retrenching staff when business slows down and less money is made. Investor gods first.
Yes, in the West Rand, it's understandable.

Oh yaaawwwnnn, I am not the one who has to run a Mr Price shop, so why should that be my problem? They can close it down if it becomes too much for them.

It's called overspeccing, again they are not cooking or heating anything in the shop, they can even have a 24hr backup if they want to.
By how much should they overspec?

At this rate I have a feeling Eskom and the ANC are going to find a way to twist time and space and start loadshedding 30h a day before the end of the year.

What kind of cheap solutions are they rolling out if they can't cope with computers?

You forgot about those employees who smuggle heaters in during winter and place them under then counters/desks. I've know of a business this happened to.
Even after being warned and confiscating electric bar heaters, new ones would keep appearing. Employees also don't give a rats ass if it's a white plug or a red plug nor who's paying the bills.

If you don't factor in building climate control (heating and cooling) it's going to happen one way or the other. Your backup solution will need to cope with that - not just a few computers.

I would first be very interested to see what they have because I am not convinced on what exactly their backup solution entails. It's not just about throwing a backup solution and hoping for the best, energy audits and optimising your energy need to cut out unnecessary power drains and all that, it's a process you go through to make sure you start on the right footing.
