You forgot about those employees who smuggle heaters in during winter and place them under then counters/desks. I've know of a business this happened to.
Even after being warned and confiscating electric bar heaters, new ones would keep appearing. Employees also don't give a rats ass if it's a white plug or a red plug nor who's paying the bills.

If you don't factor in building climate control (heating and cooling) it's going to happen one way or the other. Your backup solution will need to cope with that - not just a few computers.
It's Mr Price, they can cope without an aircon, those kind of shops don't even have the aircon on even when it's fully functional, you can feel the cost cutting the minute you walk in.

I would first be very interested to see what they have because I am not convinced on what exactly their backup solution entails. It's not just about throwing a backup solution and hoping for the best, energy audits and optimising your energy need to cut out unnecessary power drains and all that, it's a process you go through to make sure you start on the right footing.
That's now answering his question .

By how much they overspec ?

We’re passionate about driving social and economic transformation in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable and we are committed to meeting the requirements of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) in South Africa, under the Revised Codes of Good Practice. As soon as the group’s B-BBEE status is finalised the compliance certificate will be published on the group’s website as required by the JSE LR.

No no no, they stole solar lights in Zambia, bad things happen in other countries too!
I've seen so much of this attitude in SA its frightening. Friends who I thought were objective, critical thinkers constantly saying "it could be worse", "it's not that bad", "x place also has x". Some people struggle with accepting reality and how it affects their long term plans, dreams, hopes etc. Is 8-12 hours of power and the water and sewerage systems failing bad enough yet? Oh not that bad, cool.

The slow boiled frogs thing is very real. At some point the frogs will die if they don`t jump out.

Just need the right mindset famalamadingdong

The critical mistake is expecting the government to be able to do any of those things. Once you correct for that mistake, you are free.

It's simple, for the kind of business they run they should have something decent enough to last for the longest continuous loadshedding period and still be able to charge in time for the next stage, they are not cooking anything in there, their energy needs are far lower than other businesses.
Mr P close to us have implemented shutter down solution doing LS. Probably saves them money as customers know about this so they (including me) don't bother to go there during LS. Not bad strategy really.

I am ok with this if it helps that store to remain in business. If they keep store open by spending more on backup plans, won't they have to increase costs ? Of course there is a loss of customer issue also. Not sure then.

He is blaming the business for not handling loadshedding properly instead of blaming the ANC for causing the loadshedding.

Election coming up.
Err, you can have a total fsck up and a failure to plan effective contingency. They are not mutually exclusive.

How do customers know Mr P loadshedding schedule and how does it help the store remain in business?

That is also an option, whatever makes financial sense.

They should get a competent supplier/installer he will explain everything.
Who says they didn't ?
Do you have an official link or document?

Like pretty much every single person in this thread says, you can't 'overspec' when the goalposts keep changing .

You can, many people have done just that and cruised through stage 6.
