The BBC's TV channels could be made available on the internet, one of the corporation's top executives has said.

A simulcast of BBC One or BBC Two, letting UK viewers see programmes on the web at the same time as they go out on TV, is being planned.

Pity we can't have that in South Africa, hey Telkom? All that downloading would constitute abuse!

Well the point is, it's a good idea. Pity that SABC 1, 2 & 3 wouldn't be worth spending a 3Gb cap on.

It wouldn't work here anyway, because our broadband is just too sucky, as is our data allowance.

You can test this by trying to stream Click Online :-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/default.stm

Click on the "watch in broadband" if your on ADSL or iBurst
(requires real media - get the real alternative player)

On my 384 line, it buffers, plays for between 10 to 30 seconds then buffers again, with a few seconds of gap between playing. It makes it close to unwatchable.

Bear in mind, this is one 320x240 and not exactly high quality either !

We SHOULD be able to stream that feed, but we can't, because of the way our international access is configured.

Irritating, isn't it ?
