Watching US stats go up i think they are going to surpass Italy in the next couple of weeks.
to be honest, America has no idea what is about to hit them. Old Donny's beautiful economy falling apart +his $1000 cheque distraction ...is what is leading most of the news cycle... Italians are lamenting, they were oblivious to all the warnings...till the crap hit the fan.

Angola are shutting down their flights.

They're also getting fussy on who is flying to SA. My people trying to get out. But they are foreigners, so not being allowed

Have we got an indication if they are still just international travelers or are the local transmissions coming for tests as well now?

There's a piece on BBC about South Africa round 9:07

We are behind the curve. The number should be higher than that, so there might be additional cases confirmed later today.

We are fairly dispersed compared to the population dense EU/Asian countries. So it wouldn’t surprise me if numbers are lower than expected in addition with more awareness and early measures in place. Edit- up until it hits informal settlements

And the reason I'm assuming a 3:1 ratio and not 5:1 ratio.

Hmmm fair enough, there are so many factors though so predicting this can be almost impossible. Corona taking major hold in New York can result in devastating case numbers for example.

Has anyone seen any studies/reports on the 'collateral' damage of COVID-19. So how many businesses have had to close down/jobs lost/people died due to hospitals being overwhelmed, etc. ?

Would be something interesting to see, I think.

There is apparently quite a bit of chaos brewing in France, people starting fights in shops and looting and people being generally more aggressive, not sure to what extent, just saw a couple of crappy videos, so might be completely false as well

Has to be false.. The French don't know how to fight. They're surrender monkeys.

That does sound very low

But lets assume that the actions of the govt here by the actions they announced on Sunday (proactively by some other countries responses) may have started everybody thinking about personal hygiene, social distancing, etc. Let's hope it has been helping. I would love if we stay behind the normal projected curves..

Huge mortuary set up behind coroners’ court ready for coronavirus deaths

I wonder if this is a reaction to Italy, or if it was part of the plan all along.
