WASHINGTON — The outbreak of the respiratory virus began in China and was quickly spread around the world by air travelers, who ran high fevers. In the United States, it was first detected in Chicago, and 47 days later the World Health Organization declared a pandemic. By then it was too late: 110 million Americans were expected to become ill, leading to 7.7 million hospitalized and 586,000 dead.

That scenario, code-named “Crimson Contagion,” was simulated by the Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services in a series of exercises that ran from last January to August.

The simulation’s sobering results — contained in a draft report dated October 2019 that has not previously been reported — drove home just how underfunded, underprepared and uncoordinated the federal government would be for a life-or-death battle with a virus for which no treatment existed.

Since most people are working from home and less mileage put on cars , far less vehicles on the road, the insurance companies can come to the party and offer discounts on premiums until this pandemic is over. No need for high premiums as the risk is lower. There are lots of people who will not be able to afford premiums as they no longer have an income.

Italy increase by 1000 cases from yesterday. Utter chaos. Little evidence that the curve is flattening in Italy.

The anti-BoJo loudmouths must be devastated the UK only went up by 66 today. :sneaky:

Italy day 49
Still tracking the Hubei outbreak closely. The only difference being the 2.5 higher death rate reflecting the 2.5 higher proportion of over 70s in Italy's population. If the outbreaks keep following a similar pattern new cases should start falling soon. Unfortunately another 11 days of +-400 death tolls are also on the cards if the correlation stays in tact.

427 new deaths in Italy reported in one day. Italy just surpassed the total reported deaths in China.

Europe doesn't have the same draconian and CCTV system that China has. it is really going to get out of control and countries like Italy with a large elderly population could have thousands dying.

Your posts always seem to contain the extreme pro-UK bias which is tiring. The figure of 66 cases was provided early this morning so it doesn't contain the latest stats from the remainder of today. If you think they went from having 600+ cases yesterday to 66 today you are deluded. Will return to this post when the actual stat has been provided.

66 new cases and 33 new deaths in the United Kingdom, of which 29 in England. Waiting for reports on new cases today. Official figures on the number of confirmed cases in England will be published later this afternoon, according to DHS [source] [source]

Two problems here though, 1) how much can Chinese numbers be trusted? 2) Chinas percentage increase had already long stabilized and was in fact going down at around 8% with 40k infected. Italy had a brief period of increase percentage stabilization but now its gone up again. Its currently almost double Chinas percentage increase at 15% :(

My apologies then. The UK ticker isn't usually updated more than once per day unlike say the US which changes as more states report.

Eish. That's a bit too creepy for me :X3:. Orwell only missed the date.
