Mulling over the numbers, yes, still early days and countries still weeks behind, but short of a country going nuts and having millions of deaths, this doesn't look like its even going to crack 50% of flu annual death numbers(300-600k)... thoughts?

We are beyond this pointless discussion now. It's pretty clear that this is nothing like seasonal flu.

Exactly. Just the sniffles.
 WTF I've never said 'its seasonal flu' and not implying it here as a discussion either, in fact said before its not flu in this thread.
What I'm saying is, with all our intervention and lock downs, this looks like we're on our way for numbers to be relatively low by comparison, provided we don't have a country explode
HTF did you guys get 'just the flu' from my post?

You compared it to the flu's numbers in your post. Might be due to that?

I was busy blowing my nose due to the sniffles.
I'm serious man... We're 3 and a bit months in, yes still spreading, but not going wild with the lock downs as it would have otherwise. Even throwing say 100k to US in deaths, throw another 50k to EU etc, currently, I think the worlds is doing fairly well all things considered... we could come out of this with as little as 300k-400k or so(as said, as long as a country doesn't explode), which isn't too bad considering the millions the estimates started out as

I agree. The whole thing is way out of proportion to the response it's getting.

The response is way out of proportion, but what it comes down to is what price do you put on 79 year old Granny Gertrude and 84 year great uncle Umar's life?

We are on 2112 jobless for every coronavirus death in the USA now. 2112 people out of whom probably at least a few are considering suicide.

I wouldn't be surprised if most young people would be willing to risk it if they knew the real stats, rather than ruin the entire world economy.

Dunno about the number or the suicide, but each employed person in SA supports how many? 5? 10? Other people, who now will be more undernourished, more susceptible to disease and so and so on. It's a colossal disaster that will take decades for this country to get out of. The virus and the lives it takes will be an old distant memory and we'll all still be on the verge of poverty due to what is happening right now.
