20,000 people protest in Munich, looks like some of them forgot their masks...

EDIT: Looks like that photo is from Berlin where at least 15,000 people gathered.

I wonder how many countries are now going to see a new wave of Covid infections as a result of all this nonsense.

I wonder how many countries are now going to see a new wave of Covid infections as a result of all this nonsense.

Plenty. Thousands will die from covid19 as result. Of course questioning why an elderly or vulnerable individual in say Wales must now suffocate to death because mostly spoilt white prats want a jol is verboten.

After expressing my concerns about the Black Lives Matter protest in Cardiff, which undoubtedly broke the Welsh Government's prohibition on public gatherings of more than two people, I was subjected on Twitter to a vicious tirade of abuse and bullying that lasted for days," he said.

"Many of the tweets questioned my right to express an opinion, called into question my credentials as a journalist and attacked me on the basis of my age.

"One of my guiding principles is not to appease bullies, so I defended myself by responding robustly to my attackers."

Brazil's stats continue to baffle. They have more daily confirmed positives than daily tests conducted. Data coming out of there seems tainted to say the least. They staring down the barrel though.

And a false analogy is transferring information or meaning from a particular subject to another where it does not exist.
Don't ever try to be a teacher.

Loss of smell and taste might be long-term for some Covid-19 survivors

In a recent study, almost 100% of patients hospitalised for Covid-19 presented with smell "dysfunction".

  • Even people with mild Covid-19 infections experience loss of smell and taste
  • Some patients never entirely recover their sense of smell
  • It's not a cure, but in some cases 'smell training' help people regain some of their olfactory ability
How many is some? Can't really compare it to other diseases which cause the same thing and sometimes take a while for recovery without any numbers. In my experience the common cold almost always has loss of smell and taste as a symptom.

Wasn't a second wave supposed to be inevitable.

Also the lack of masks would tend to indicate that the Europeans are so well-disciplined, they always do what their government tells them and they wear masks, is nonsense as expected. Even Asians regularly remove their masks or don't even wear them.

When the data start getting uncomfortable, Brazil stopped publishing the totals:

When the data start getting uncomfortable, Brazil stopped publishing the totals:
"On Twitter, Mr Bolsonaro said "the cumulative data... does not reflect the moment the country is in" but did not explain why the information had to be removed or could not be released. He said additional measures were being taken to "improve the reporting of cases"."

Well Mr Bolsonaro, that's why it's cumulative.
What a terrible excuse.

Its a plot to upset the number crunchers.
I mean how are "they" now going to be able to say "I told you so"?

The data is still there, you just have to add up the daily totals. In SA we have the oppisite problem, over-emphasis on the totals, rather than daily provincial breakdowns. Scratch that: In most countries the data is pretty unreliable anyway, so the number of positive cases becomes meaningless at some stage.

These kind of reports become numbingly meaningless after a while. By definition an exponential growth phase means that every day the number of new infections increases. Expect the same headline to be repeated every week, until past the peak of the epidemic.

Whether the number of cases or deaths increases, becomes a statistical artefact of the measurements and time intervals. To quote Stalin: A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.

Edit: Note that this is the international thread, discussion about SA has veered off topic...

Absolutely. There is nothing to report anymore. Especially when the info is already 2-3 days old.

I really just shared it because to lose 56 people in one day just after we moved to a more relaxed phase - is terrifying. In two weeks time - how much bigger will that one day death number be?! 56 is shocking - but you are right - we haven't seen anything yet. And as more people get relaxed and forget to wash hands, not visit with people they don't know the health of, the faster that number will grow. I had my son wanting to go and see a school friend this weekend - and I nearly let him. Luckily my SO is a lot more paranoid and after discussing it, we decided the risk to the lady that works with us - and to him - isn't worth it. But I know of many people who are popping over to others to cut hair, have braais etc.
