Doctors may be missing signs of serious and potentially fatal brain disorders triggered by coronavirus, as they emerge in mildly affected or recovering patients, scientists have warned.

Neurologists are on Wednesday publishing details of more than 40 UK Covid-19 patients whose complications ranged from brain inflammation and delirium to nerve damage and stroke. In some cases, the neurological problem was the patient’s first and main symptom.

The cases, published in the journal Brain, revealed a rise in a life-threatening condition called acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (Adem), as the first wave of infections swept through Britain.

There's no such thing as a usual cough. It is interesting though how after-effects that are not unique to this particular viral respiratory infection are now newsworthy.

One concern is that the virus could leave a minority of the population with subtle brain damage that only becomes apparent in years to come. This may have happened in the wake of the 1918 flu pandemic, when up to a million people appeared to develop brain disease.

I don't see it that way. The brain 'damage' was only in the initial Spanish flu wave. The follow up yearly circulation , we were much more used to the virus, and it's not having such a complications now.

Yes it is having such complications even now, with our understanding of it, it's a virus we cannot cure a virus we can get vaccines for it. But there are still complications that can lead to brain damage. People need to stop thinking the flu is nothing, the Spanish flu was an H1N1 virus, same as a lot of flus, what it caused can still be caused today.

Was just looking at new cases vs tests done in Brazil.

Yesterdays numbers show 43,694 tests done and 41,541 positives!!!

That means 95 out of 100 people tested were positive... that's just insane. 95% positive!!!

Can only imagine the numbers if they had the ability test a million people a day.
