Lets take a look at the hospitals designated to handle this.

Polokwane Hospital - 200 beds https://www.netcare.co.za/InvestorReport/ar_2015/downloads/SA Hospital listing.pdf
Charlotte Maxeke - 1,088 beds according to its Wiki page.
Rob Ferreira Hospital - 369 beds https://pmg.org.za/tabled-committee-report/2660/
Grey's Hospital - 530 beds http://www.kznhealth.gov.za/Greys/tertiary_health_institution.htm
Klerksdorp Hospital - 890 beds https://conferencehasa.co.za/upload...health_outcomes_16_30-Binu_Luke_HASA_2019.pdf
Kimberley Hospital - 287 beds https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/art...-shiny-new-half-empty-mental-health-hospital/
Pelonomi Hospital - 133 beds https://www.netcare.co.za/InvestorReport/ar_2015/downloads/SA Hospital listing.pdf
Livingstone Hospital - 541 beds https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/thr...covid-19-updates-discussion-2.1074317/page-74
Tygerberg Hospital - 1384 beds https://www.iol.co.za/capeargus/news/tygerberg-hospital-must-be-shut-down-and-replaced-15357136

That's not a lot of beds if things go pear-shaped and this is why people are taking precautions and looking to avert a worst case scenario.

On top of this South Africa has a shortage of critical care beds as it is. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24079628

Livingstone Hospital in the EC for example only has 11 beds in its ICU. Imagine they get whacked by this? Fvcked.

Do the Military hospitals not still have wings for biological warfare and other other emergencies?

Actually now may be a good time to pardon Wouter.

Most of our ICU beds are in the private sector. As much as three-quarters of them. Public sector is woefully equipped in this regard.

I do not know anything about the Mil hospitals but I'd imagine that their capacity would be low as well.

*These are total beds, not ICU/critical care beds, which will be much, much fewer in number.

So you purposefully leave out private hospitals who would also be able to cater for people, if not government patients, medical aid patients?

I also don't see:

Steve Biko
Kalafong
Pretoria West hospital

and and and.

I don't think our private hospitals have more than 20 isolation beds among all of them.

You say this as if we are near the end.

Spain will be next. They are already requisitioning private hospitals and hotels to increase capacity, as their numbers will shortly exceed that of Italy and the current capacity will be exhausted.

I rate you should give it up for your own mental health. I've dealt with these type of people personally and its just not worth it. They lack any sense of self awareness. In any case, whether you believe the current rates or not you can't deny that the current health care systems cannot handle it if the spread is left unchecked.

Tygerberg Hospital - 1384 beds
Funny thing about those numbers, dept of health gives a list of hospitals, but what they choose not to reveal is the current capacity of those hospitals.
Tygerberg for example with it's 1384 beds, is currently 136% over capacity.
So while they may have 1384 beds, they are all occupied with a 4 to 5 day wait for non-critical patients.

These are the designated isolation units - I thought their hospital bed figures only included isolation beds ?

116

Do you peeps think this is going to become a "normal" virus by spreading across the entire world until a vaccine is available or do you think it will be stopped in its tracks at some point?

According to this science youtuber, it will take ~ 2 months for the entire planet to be infected.

Isolation unit beds, not ICU beds.

I purposely left out nothing.

Are the private hospitals and other public hospitals prepared and geared for this? Can they be prepared and geared for this resource-wise?
