Chinese accused US military of bringing the virus to Wuhan. Trump took that to be an insult to America and retaliated by calling it Chinese flu/virus.

(Thought I read that China then withdrew ambassadors from US but can't find a link so might be wrong)

Not certain of timeline but I believe the Chinese were retaliating to a high ranking US official who repeatedly stated during broadcasts that the virus was developed in a Chinese lab. Will need to check the timeline on that but I seem to recall the US starting this tit for tat with those unfounded allegations.

No.

Social distancing. Simple and effective.

You will still have infections unless you lock everyone in a room and say: "Come out when the virus is gone". That is unfortunately the reality. Social distancing will not stop it, it will prolong the infection rate, but won't stop it. You earlier said, sick or not you have to go work. You will infect someone, no matter how hard you try not to. Unless you self isolate and remove yourself completely you are going to infect someone, it's just a matter of time. That is the reality.

Yes that was back in mid February so definitely the US started it:

Senator Tom Cotton Repeats Fringe Theory of Coronavirus Origins

Scientists have dismissed suggestions that the Chinese government was behind the outbreak, but it’s the kind of tale that gains traction among those who see China as a threat.

The whole point of social distancing to keep simultaneous cases low so that hospitals don't get overwhelmed

That is higher than our AIDS-related death rate.... and AIDS isn't a big issue there:oops:

You are all aware that Italy has the highest average age in Europe? This was predictable given the known risk factors. It should not come as a shock to anyone. So please don't get all hysterical again :D

I don't know why you people are bothering. It's beyond his comprehension. He's decided everyone will get it. So might as well let it happen...before there is any chance of a vaccine or anything being developed. Just dive in, is what he believes. There is no logic to it, but logic can't really be taught

We'll have this discussion again in a year. I can't wait.

Great article, until the end - one cruiseship does not offer accurate data, there's too many variables that keep surfacing everywhere. Mortality, or whatever one calls it, is much higher. Re-infection isn't even understood yet. And claims that those recovered offer a fix seem thin at best. Too little time has passed for certainty, science can't handle this.

Why the planes from Netherlands with 2001 cases of coronavirus and 58 death are still allowed to land in Cape Town? KLM103 just about to land now. Whats wrong with this f..ing government?

Well, thank fully a lot of people are not being total idiots and listening to the likes of you...otherwise we won't have this discussion in a year.

Both me and my 8 year old son are severe asthmatics, and wake up at night regularly being unable to breathe already. And so fall under the risk category that you have already sacrificed for the apparent greater good.

Seeing all these secondary school stupids on the internet acting like they're qualified doctors isn't entertainment for me. Because their fellow stupids believe them and go about spreading the virus with no idea or not a care about consequences outside their control.

Of course, another factor unique to the Italian situation is that multiple generations live together. The young and fit, and the old and vulnerable.

Quite a number of South Africans all over the world. And a lot of them are trying to get back home.
