So now it's only 5% serious or critical as the numbers go up, the deaths are looking a bit scary but those numbers from Italy are what skew this heavily.

Off-topic:

That's actually not what he's saying, he's trying to get people to stop panicking about everything. You're more than likely going to get it, government isn't going to stop it. What's he's trying to get people to realise is stop spreading things like Switzerland only has 10 days of beds at this current growth and such. The data models aren't accurate, the numbers aren't right. Take it day by day and see how things go, overloading the medical system for tests when you've got the sniffles is what causes the backlog and issues.
If you're medically compromised and in the risk group, it's better to try self-isolate as much as possible, if you're feeling the symptoms self-isolate, if they get worse contact the NICD. But don't go and blow thousands on toilet paper, don't always believe the stories of we will run out of beds, the world is ending, currently it feels like it because the media are hyping everything up.

EDIT:
Actually that was exactly what he said in the beginning...until other people pointed out the why and the how.
Then, to save face, he had to walk it back a bit...and try and work in all his different angles, trying to appear "concerned" while not being "arsed."
I watched the whole thing unfold and frustratingly chuckled when he started his -what I'm sure he considers to be "brilliant", but instead cringingly obvious- walk back.

But whatever.

After all:

pitbull: "I couldn't be arsed, bro. GTFO and GFY :D "

(I'm sure he'll respond soon enough, with some more cringe. Watch this space  )

Anyway...back onto the topic of the thread: COVID-19

Oh boy if true, this is going to cause all kinds of anger towards Amazon

Exclusive: Amazon Confirms First Known Coronavirus Case in an American Warehouse

Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Queens, New York, received a text Wednesday evening that they long feared might come: “We’re writing to let you know that a positive case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) was found at our facility today.”

This is the realization of a major threat to Amazon’s operations. Millions of people across the nation are cloistered inside their homes, many of them relying on the company to provide basic goods. Amazon is already struggling to meet demand, and some employees feel they’re being unfairly endangered by working in warehouses filled with other workers. It’s unclear how deliveries could continue if the workers who sort, pack, and ship Americans’ goods start getting sick in droves.

Though two office workers at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters have been diagnosed with COVID-19, this is the first confirmed case of the disease among the company’s hourly warehouse employees in the United States. These workers make up the majority of Amazon’s 600,000-strong workforce.

According to the text, which was sent by a member of a workers’ group called Amazonians United, management sent day-shift workers home in order to disinfect the sorting facility, known as DBK1.

Jonathan Bailey, an employee who sorts packages at the Queens facility, told me that workers were not notified of the positive case by Amazon management; he learned of it from other employees. He said workers believed that they were still expected to report for their night shift. In an email to The Atlantic, Amazon denied this, saying that it notified all associates about the positive test, and that workers were not expected to come in for their night shift.

Not sure if anyone has seen this, or if its been mentioned here yet. Apologies if that's the case.

I can understand once voice to combat all the fake stories. I just dont think Goverment will give us the full story, which is incredibly concerning. There is just so much that we dont know. If we dont have access to information i think its likely to pile on more fear and will create exactly what they trying to avoid.

It still blows my mind that you sitting here in SA can tell us that the Swiss are getting it wrong. They're on the ground, they can see what is happening. They can see the infection numbers going up. They can see the beds filling up. They can see what happened and is happening in Italy.

You've had an answer for everything posted here that has come from a country and people actively dealing with situations worse than ours. Its quite amazing actually.

Preparedness and taking precaution is better than acting like things are okay and are not going to get worse.

And nobody says you can stop it. What you can try and do is make it a steady trickle instead of a tsunami.

Social media is awash with some pretty vile stuff. None of it is being shut down.

But calling this the Wuhan and Chinese virus is now taboo. The world has gone crazy with identity politics to the point where it is driving narratives in a "global pandemic".
